that's normal because you're playing stereo (two channel) sound, and i don't think itunes will "upmix"

    test with a multi-channel source like a 5.1 DVD

    Audigy 4 Pro

I just observed, that with the kx driver installed, my comp. will have some sleep issues, namely: the fan does not stops, and the computer cannot be waken up.

Anyway, its a great thing what you're doing.

If you have option to set StandBy mode to S1 in BIOS, do it :) because S3,S4 etc onwards things become little complicated when some kext constantly refreshes (before half the system enters standBy or shutdown state)...

my problem was solved with S1 however in that mode, fan is expected to remain ON and take more elect. but atleast monitor will turn off properly ;)

    Thank you for help dj_stick
Well I tried a couple of DVD's (Casino Royale, The Fast and the Furious, and a couple of Simpsons DVD's) and have gone through the different audio modes and still getting only 2 front speakers, is there any applications that can help me upmix to 5.1?

    S1 works

    Thanks, for the help.
Is there a chance in the future to be able to sleep to S3 state?

In the drivers release notes it says hardware volume control enabled. Is it refers to the mac keyboards hardware buttons, or to the volum control on the soundcards breakout box? The first is working, the soundcards volume control is'nt.

    Tnx

About the hardware volume control, if you have purchased Platinum series or better, you get extra LiveDrive (go to creative.com to see those extra drives) which has hardware volume controls (and some other i/o ports etc).

I don't think ACPI (Shutdowns, Stand-by etc) has much to do with sound cards (PCIs) :uhoh: Different other type of cards can also not allow system to sleep (USBs, ISAs, Ethernet etc), if you want to completely isolate and find the problem, you have to disable them from BIOS or take them out physically and see whether stand-by works or not after they're out of system. In old days, ISA cards didn't allow systems to go on stand-by, If cards are not the problem then maybe there are some differences in hardware of Mac and our PCs so, you have to understand some compatibility issues...

If you were able to put your computer on S3 earlier (before installing kX driver) and if its not working now, then its obvious that kX driver OR card might have something to do with it... but since my system did not go on stand-by (S3) before installing kX drivers, i really don't think these drivers have anything to do with it.

My Live! 5.1 become distorting sound after one or less minute after starting audio playback from itunes or VLC.
After clicking at "Sample rate" (48000hz...) in Audio-MIDI setup utility, sound become play normally and now start distorting after one or less minute...

I have Audigy 4 Pro with external Live Drive, with remote control etc. but the volume control is not working, nor the mute.

With the kx uninstalled i can suspend to S3 state, but with kx installed cannot.

Another issue, i observed that the sound volume is very high. I have almost every volume control set to the lower third iTunes, Master volume, and Speaker Volume, and even this way some times in high pitch sound i hear overdrive distortion. Somewhere the sound is clipped but dont know where. This is only for recordings with higher sound level, and its not varrying in time.

    Forgot to mention:
    MB: Intel Badaxe2
    Proc: E6600
    Ram: 6Gb 800 Mhz
    Sound card: Audigy 4 Pro
    Os: Leopard 10.5.5

    try the following:
    1. install the driver
    2. check that audio is ok
    3. in terminal, unload the driver
    (sudo kextunload /system/library/extensions/kxaudiodriver.kext)
    - may need to type this twice
    4. check with kextstat that kxaudio is no longer present
    5. put your PC into sleep state

    does this fix the problem?..

    4. might be also related to distortion of system sounds in leopard (when played back in the sound preference pane)
    5. is it present with earlier builds? where can I find a detailed description of the issue? my suggestions listed above concerning sleep mode apply to this problem as well.
    6. remote control is not supported

also, Zaurak mentions issues with 'too high volume'. anyone to confirm this?

Yep :) this will perfectly get the answer straight... (I was thinking these guys should try older builds too whether it fixes the problem or not)

Shutdown and Stand by issues were given by these dudes
Morfy tungmeister (click to read what they said) but this problem is best described in this thread itself (cauz others just reported in short way) Anyways, I've given your quotes in the page. Too high volume is looking too close to issue number 3 of mine (where there is high treble) while some people use different words to describe it.

My old post: Added 2 new issues (OpenAL + Logic Crash) [edit: yep its remote] ;)

    Sleep to S3

Yes Sir, definitely does. After kextunload the machine sleeps to S3 state, and wakes up without any problem.

I try to describe what is happening with kx driver loaded:
After i command the sleep the HDD-s are powering down, monitor shuting off, power led turning off, but the fans are not.
Waking up is not possible from this state. does not react to any input nor to the power button, just reset or forced shut down.

Thank you, i hope i can contribute to fix this problem.

I also have another problem, it might be the one, to wich other people reffer as kernel panic. Its a quick freeze, the soundcards buffer its repeateadly played out. My display does not shows any kernel panic message. If i remember correctly it happens for example loading movie with quicktime, or vlc, or just browsing in itunes. It happens around twice a day.

    Re: Sleep to S3

Just found two new issues :) When you play AC3 or any 5.1 Media, turn to your headphones, it will play "Left and Right surrounded" (no human voice if watching movie). EDIT: I have a feeling this has something to do with your dsp ;)

Next, at times there are sudden volume hike (loud) and could damage speakers as bass is like 200% (distortion)
EDIT: It appears that when a music with "Loud" beats touches the peak volume or goes beyond peak, bass distortion starts... till the music is soft (50% - 75% volume), there is no bass distortion. [using 1.1b0 as b1 is Kernal Panic release :D ]
