$5 bill with 1 dallor bill partially samped on it?

Before you say it. It has the true green treasury stampn, the stip inside the bill, the
wattermark, the micro print looks fine etc.. to me it looks like a legit bill though I've
not full rulled out being counterfit completely. But the security features appear to be
there.

I got this at work yesterday but to me it looks like a bill thats a "misprint"
aka could be worth some money if it is. Becouse the flowing design there
is from the back of a $1 dallor bill...




what do you guys think?

 

mis prints are nice.. but i've never handed american funds.....

 

do you have that yellow magic marker specifically for money? and what about a black light? the security strip will change to a blue color (i think it's blue, been a while since i've done that) if you hold it under a black light.

Common counterfitting is doing just that...fitting a counter. This time it looks like it happens to be a $1 counter was replaced with a $5 counter. Typically the $1 bill will be bleached, and the new face put on it. I'd be a bit careful before handing that one over as payment.

 

Take it to a bank & ask em. Check it out on the internet. If it's a known thing then some numismatic or notaphile will be able to authenticate it.

Yeah I've had American's tell me that our money was colourful and then they traded it to me for face value :lol: IMO American money was modelled after monopoly money, I'd never be able to tell the difference between a $5 and a $100

There a tons of differance between the bills $20/$50/$100 are colorfull, have color chageing ink black/green a diffent angles etc... So I think thier silly...

You can tell it transfered from another bill - look at the large outline of the 1 with the 'ONE' overlayed on it. its clearly spelled 'ENO' - backwards...And if it were 'print' - it wouldn't be backwards.. its a transfer.

They just had a thing on the news about bogus 20's going around... made by washing off the $1 ink - and printing $20 on it.

 

yes, it has to be a black light. any other light, and the protective strip will not change color.

also, if you go to any merchant, they should have that magic marker. If it's a fake bill, the ink will turn from a yellowish color to a dark brown almost black color almost immediately. see if the merchant will let you use their marker on your bill.

 

It will work if the $1 was counterfeit neon

I still think a canadian $5 coin called the "woody" would be halarious.

Canadian curancy is made in different colors so that when your nearly passed out falling stupid drunk, that in the darkest deepest corner of the bar, you can pull out your wallet and still tell the difference between every bill you got.

 

But if it's a misprint then he has just screwed up the quality of the bill. Don't mark it. Find some other way to verify. And then let us know.

 

if that's going to be the case, the UV light would be the best way to find out. like i said, i belive the strip turns blue under a uv light.

 

if it were mis-'printed' the 'ONE' wouldn't be backwards - thus, it transfered from a $1 bill onto the 5.

And I suspect the value of it is most to the authorities to determine what chemical caused the ink to transfer - so they can put controls on it - or info on who gave it to you as that bill may have been a 'test' for an illegal chemical purchase. Otherwise its just as valuable as the $5 alone.
