i'm a typical gamer, internet browser with broadband w/o ADSL and the services I disable are:

    Alerter - manual
    Automatic Updates (ewwwww) - disabled
    Error Reporting Service - manual
    Help and Support - manual
    IPSEC - manual
Machine Debug Manager ( The mdm thing from office ) - manual
Messenger - manual ( This is not MSN messenger )
Portable Media Serial Number Service - manual
    Protected Storage - manual
    Remote Registry - manual
    Wireless Zero Configuration - manual

    I think that's about it.
    Hope this helps

Oh and don't disable Task Scheduler or you will disable the prefetcher completely.
