    Go to Start --> Run
    Enter "services.msc"

    Find the following services and Stop them, then disable them by double clicking on the service name.

    SSDP Discovery Service
    Universal Plug and Play Device Host

    This is NOT Plug and Play
    Unless you have a UPnP device you will not have any side effects except your Icons coming back :)

    Is it only if you end task on it, and then restart it (i.e. does it work normally when system first boots)?
    I would make sure that kxmixer.exe in your kX Project program directory, and Windows\System32 directory are both the version from 3538h.

    <edit>
    And while you are at it, you might as well make sure the dll's (in WIndows\System32) are the correct one's as well.

    BTW:
    Even without the icon you should be able to open the mixer (if you try to start it twice, the second time should open the mixer window).

    The only other thing I can think of to check is the file permissions. Make sure that Administrators and System have full control, and Users have Read and Read & Execute permissions.

    BTW: File permissions only apply if you are using NTFS file system (I thought I should add this, so that if you are not using NTFS, you are not searching around looking for a way to check the file permissions)

    I think you´ve something skipped in the installation of 3538, please follow the guide how to install the whole version(s) of 3538 from ver. c to update h. on top of this forum.

    Hmm, sorry I do not have Windows 2000 to test with, but I cannot think of any reason why that part of the driver would have changed between 3537 and 3538 (and I have no such problem on WinXP). When you mention the 3538 full version, you are speaking about 3538c, right? Anyone else here using Windows 2000 that can test this?

    BTW: Do you realize that you have mistyped the version numbers in all your posts in this thread thus far. i.e. There currently are no 3838, 3837, or 3738 versions. It is not really a big deal or anything, it is just a little confusing.

    Just so we are clear (I asked before but I did not see a response to the question), when you first boot up, the icon is in the system tray and works correctly, right?

    If you end task on kxmixer, and then restart kxmixer.exe the icon does not show up in the systray?
    Even though the icon is missing, can you still open the mixer window (by trying to start kxmixer when it is allready running)?

    What happens if you quit kxmixer instead of ending task in it?

    Sorry if i was unclear before....no when i boot up the icon is not in the system tray...but it's in
    the taskmanager...and i cant access the mixer in any way...

    i cant try to stop the mixer by quiting it as i cant access the mixer.....when i chose "end task" on the mixer and then restart it it will only again show up in my taskmanager and not in my
    system tray...

    and yes, the full version that im talking about is the 3538c...

    I see that ihave mistyped like every version...hope you know what i mean anyway :)

    So, if you try and run kxmixer when it is allready running, the mixer window does not open at all?
    What happens if you boot up normally, and then log off (not reboot), and then log back on?

    Sorry for all the questions, but there are some known issues with different windows versions (not related to kX specifically) and systray icons, and I am trying to determine if your issue is related.
