Ive heard you should keep the AGP Aperture size half of the video card memory and Ive also heard other stuff as well.....

    I have a 256mb Radeon X850 Series.

The AGP Aperture size in my BIOS is currently set to 128mb. SHould I change it to 256mb??

-Any help would be greatly appreciated.

keep it at 128 mb. 256 mb should only be set if you have a 128 mb or lower video card.

You need to spend more time around here. ;)

The summation is that, regardless of your system, somewhere between 64 ~ 128 is what you need to use for the AGP Aperture setting.

What I'd do is try it at one and then the other but use one for a few days and then use the other for a few days. Whichever one gives the best overall performance, stick with that. :)

Benching with Quake4 I found no improvement when switching from 128 to 256MB, and that's with a 128MB card.

What if there is a slight difference but I can't conclude which one gives better performance? lol:wtf:

If you can't really tell a difference, just flip a coin. LOL! ;)

I'm just not sure about one thing in that guide. It says that setting it above 128 wouldn't hurt the performance. So why is 64-128 recommanded? Also, I remember switching to 256 while I still had a total of 512MB, HL2 stuttering got much worse so I reversed immediately.

I think it's all pretty much theoretical anyway. What works well on one system, may not work as well on another. There are just too many variables to offer a standardized setting.

That's why I prefer to suggest testing it out on different settings and just go with the one that works best.

I keep mine really low and see best performance out of that. Right now its at 128MB

when i had the 6600GT 128 mb and agp aperture size set at 256 mb, it would crash my system, but 128 mb wouldn't. it might have been the video card cause i didn't like it much anyways, but who knows. i think 128 mb should probably be used regardless of how much gpu ram or system ram you have. the jump between 64-128 is much greater than 128-256.
