My current computer is... Intel 2.4c 1 gig pc3200 asus p4p800 radeon 9500 pro 350watt psu I am wanting to capture video from old vhs tapes to burn to dvd, and hi8 tapes to share online and burn to dvds. I started looking for a capture card and found most are over $100. Then I found the x800xt for around $150. I notice it has only a one year warranty, but most nvidias have lifetime. Do they offer a AIW type of card around the same price? This is an agp, is there any use to wait for dx10 or will that all be pci-e? I have not been into computers for a while so I am out of date.
All DX10 will be PCI-E which makes sense since those cards NEED the bandwidth for that kind of heavy duty calculation. My advice is go with a separate capture card then if you need a better 3D card go with just a pure 3D card. Its alot easier to set up, work with, and use. Trust me. Read some of the other threads around here about dealing with AiW's
where can I learn something about this capture cards? I see them ranging from like 30-500. Like what is a good brand and what should I look for.?
Just Google for a review of the card you're interested in. The Hauppage series of cards are really good and most people here have gone with them from AiW's and are very happy. ATI's own TV wonder, ironically enough, works pretty good
