This is a post to announce the GX9_6153 driver set. This is NOT an attempt to undercut Cyborg in any way - we all appreciate what he does... VERY MUCH! (waits for applause for Cyborg... c'mon people!)

However, there have been a bunch of new drivers recently, and no new O/P's - which is perfectly understandable. Cyborg has stuff to do, and frankly everything lately has been VERY beta... multiple revisions of the same drivers, etc.

However, I have done some VERY basic synthesis and gotten a bizarre (yet stable, in theory at least) hybrid of the "official" dx9 drivers, the "official" sp1-compatible drivers, and a set that I ripped out of the new 1097 service pack.

I have to do a couple test runs of the installer in the morning, to make sure that it doesn't blow out on clean installs or anything, but I hope to have it available for download tomorrow. The size is... roughly the same as the 6118 DX9 or 6118 WHQL sets... which is to say about 7 megs.

The standard 6118 control panels (either the new-style or old-style) ought to work fine with it.

Note that I'm not making any promises of brilliance here. I know NOTHING about tweaking the Radeon settings. I don't guarantee that this will work on ANY operating system other than XP with SP1 isntalled. I just thought that since I was building this for myself I might as well share, hopefully this will tide us over until Cyborg can make the next O/P's which will, I'm sure, be infinitely better than this.

Questions? Comments? Offers to host a roughly 7MB file for me in the morning? PM me or post it here.

6153's came as default with XPSp1 1097. They are stable.

    Peroni,

    Check your mail.

    Time,

The 6153 default drivers, which ARE very stable, have no OpenGL and old D3D. I have simply combined the fast OGL from 6118 with the DX9 D3D drivers and the 6153 2D files. Nothing major, but nobody else had done it and I made it work - and the installer runs great.

Hey sweet! Lookie that! Any chance of getting this linked in news? Not that I'm so much of a glory hound, mostly I just want people to tell me if it worked or not, and I know a lot of people were unhappy over the 2D problems.

If there's enough interest, I could do the same thing with the WHQL 6118's as the base instead of the DX9 ones.

I'd like to find that out, Pete. I know for a fact that they fix the OTHER 2D problems people have encountered, including the Spider Solitaire crash (how bizarre was THAT one, btw?) and several others.

However, since I have never actually experienced the Mozilla bug myself, I can't verify that it doesn't happen with these drivers.

    installed

I installed but haven't benched yet. Everything seems fine and UT is running a tad faster for me anyway. It's on my laptop anyway with a 7000 16Meg card so it's not that great anyway. I'll try more games soon. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

    Re:

Well w/ my setup of XP w/ no SP1 or DX9 installed w/ these drivers I went from 7135 in 3DMark2001 SE to 7759.
I have also been using Mozilla and it still has not crashed on me yet. Granted warp2search.net is down right now so I can not really test it. BTW anyone know of any other sites that would make Mozilla crash like warp2search?

    Re: MIRROR

    Ok, quick recap.

    1. The GX9_6153_v1 works only in WinXP with DX9. Service pack 1 is optional, but these drivers ARE compatible with it.

    2. The GX8_6153_v1 (link below) works only in WinXP, with either DX8 or DX9, and optionally with SP1.

Neither set works in Win2k. I'll be releasing an updated Win2k set with DX9 compatibility and the updated 2D DLL's later on.

Please bear in mind that most of the speed gains from these drivers would ALSO be seen by going to the previously posted DX9 drivers. However, the 2D stability was what I was really shooting for.

The GX8_6153_v1 driver is working good for me so far, no dx9 or sp1.
My 3dmark2001 SE score went from 7327 up to 7437 :)

When I go to test DX 9 with the GX9 Drivers in DXDIAG, it tells me (error no 3d)?

    I have Radeon 8500 128MB, SP1 1097, DX9 Beta 2
