Anyone know a rough date on when we might expect these to come out? I've finally got about 300$ to spend on a card and noticed that the 5850/5870's really haven't come down in price for the last 6 months thanks to no competition from Nvidia. I don't like Nvidia but with out competition, this is what we get; good cards that don't come down in price. So before I go and spend 300/350 on a card that's year old and being stuck with it for probably another two to three years, I thought I'd ask about the new 6K series and if anyone's heard anything about it. I've looked around the net but most of what I'm finding are forum links with some misc info and nothing really concrete.
Your guess is as good as anyone elses. Some have guessd early 4th quarter, some have guessed late.. and some 1st qarter next year. The sooner the better because I want to buy a second 5870 cheap!
Thanks guys, it's kind of what thought. It's not that I really need to get a 6k series, the 5k series would be just fine, it's the damn cost. They haven't come done in price at all so I was hoping that a release of the 6k series would drop the price on everything else.
Get gigabyte 5850 OC edtion you can't go wrong so far no issue plus they keep the FW updated monlth or every other month depends
Just, don't get a BFG, if they made any ATI cards. From what I remember reading a few months ago, ATI will release the new series end of Fall beginning of Winter, this year.
Oh, that's a tough one. AMD are hardly good at supplying anyone with their laptop GPUs anywhere even near the release date. My guess, mid of 2011 you could buy one. Unless the rumour that the 6 series is only a small step towards their real focus, the "7" series, in which case they might never release one for laptops. If they do though, don't expect to be able to get a high end laptop gpu for a long long time if ever.
Hi, Yes, thats the problem. Sometimes you buy something and a newer and probably better one comes out a few months later. According to a website, it will be announced on October 2010 and will start shipping in November 2010. This is probably a rumour. On some other websites, they said its probably for next year. For those who are willing to buy the new series, its better to wait for some time after the first released ones, so that you get the better cards if ever there are issues and so on about the hardware, or hardware updates.
The 6800 is coming very soon, like today? The 6900 I don't know. Some people say the 6800 is lower performing and has become the new 5700 series, but unless I see a review here, I don't believe a word. One thing that everyone claims though is the very low power consumption, at least when idle.
As you know, I couldn't say anything last night, but yes the 6870 and 6850 arrive today, NDA broke a few hours ago. The review will be here momentarily.
Oh man, don't post this and leave! Such a tease! I have to do some workout now, but you better have it online when I come back
Ordered this today, we'll see how it is when I get it. Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100314SR Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity
According to Fudzilla the 6950 and 6970 should be released next week starting arouns $450 (price in different article)
I've seen two swedish retailers listing an MSI 6970 at about 4700 SEK. Way to expensive for my taste. That's about $680... but, since they aren't really released yet I gather the prices will change when the big ones release them.
