I was impatient so I downloaded the driver only package from AMD and added 1 line to the inf to make it work for my HP 8510w

    "ATI Mobility FireGL v5600" = ati2mtag_RV630, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9581

    Edit: I'm on Win 7 Ent x64

A bit of a reply/update since I posted the 3 mirrors to the modded 10.1 (8.70) drivers in my last post... From what I can tell the download is virus free, though I have only tested it on one game so far; Dragon Age-Origins. Results were good.

It runs better than both the most updated drivers Lenovo is dishing out for their laptops (8.64, I think?) and the newest compatible one with the Mobility Modder (8.6something).

Well you won't be seeing it on the 10.2. I've had no more luck installing them than I did the 10.1.

I forgot to say that it will be only on 10.3 driver  Sorry.

    Catalyst 10.3

ATI Catalyst Mobility: Hallelujah, right? For a while now, Nvidia has offered direct updates for its mobile hardware. Now that ATI has the only DirectX 11-compliant notebook-capable GPUs, it was only a matter of time before enthusiasts buying Mobility Radeon-based laptops started raising hell over the slow process most OEMs use in validating new driver updates. Starting with Catalyst 10.3, ATI says it’ll offer support for all Mobility GPUs, so long as the system builder doesn’t opt out of support. Currently, Sony, Toshiba, and Fujitsu are asking that their products not be updated by the new drivers.

I'm waiting for tested solutions, not in the mood for experimenting again...:(

I indirectly already explained why, but I'll be more thorough about what I see in the package. It contains the Catalyst Control Center (v2010.0106.1007.18033 - 150.0MB), ATI Catalyst Install Manager (v3.0.762.0 - 20.0MB), the ATI Display Driver (v8.700.0.0000 - 90.0MB), and the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable (v9.0.30729.4148 - 7.0MB) and both x86/x64 versions for XP and Vista/7 of such. To handle all those in one download requires the extra MB's. Note that the sizes I'm listing is the installation size the Install Manager tells you, not the actual size of that particular piece within the downloadable I linked as I assume they compress for their installers.

Sorry hacking doesn't afford the greater things in life such as customized hardware/OS downloads like AMD/ATI offers.

Gee, thanks a lot Toshiba. Looks like I'll be needing the MobilityModding crew for the foreseeable future. (Besides, if prior laptop drivers are any showing of quality, I am sure I will keep using Mobility Modder. I was able to get drivers for my old Laptop, an IGP 320m, direct from ATi back in the day.)

I think it stinks that manufacturers want to control what drivers we want to run. I got bad news for them. After we pay for it, it isn't theirs anymore.
