    Hi guys.

I have an old NCS laptop that used to run Win 2k, but would freeze whenever I opened a Flash video on YouTube. It would also freeze randomly sometimes. It seemed the problem was due to the video driver, which I tried to update several times. It never seemed to help.

Recently I upgraded to Win XP. It didn't have the correct display driver, so it defaulted to software emulation. It works very reliably, but hardware acceleration is not there so video is sluggish.

I tried installing the old ATI drivers I had saved. It was fast, but again it would freeze on YouTube. I found this site and tried the latest driver. It seems to install OK, but XP does not recognize the display device and display update is sluggish again. I tried to install Catalyst (not knowing any better), but I get a warning with installation report. Here's a snippet of the important bits of the installation report:

I have a dell 9200 with a mobility radeon 9700 card. What version ATI driver/catalyst should I upgrade to? I used a version 8.xx which only works for a couple system starts before BSOD. States problem was with ati2mag.sys. The oldest modded files you have are version 10 drivers, will they work?
    Any help appreciated.

You may need to add your card to the .inf file.

I think that part is explained well in the OP of this thread:

hello let me give my system specs then my problem

    Fujitsu N3530 Lifebook
    Radeon x1400

Tried installing 11.4 downloaded from this thread and got to the point where i updated manually and it started giving me errors that it could not use the files ati2mag.sys etc, so i browsed to find the file manually found it inside the folder from the one i used to install initially (along with every other file) and it continued to tell me that all those files could not be used or read error.

installation finished successfully (however i know this is not the case) im going to try going backwards from 11.4 down to any that will work

Awesome bro! This worked on my imac 2007 with ati mobility hd 2600 xt... Just one question (if anyone knows, probably not) but with all these drivers doesn't matter which, none of them allow me to overclock, however I heard of lots of people who have modded their imac 2007s and overclocked as well. :duh: I've tried tons of driver versions but no luck, again just want to know if any of you have any idea! THANKS!

edit: by not being to overclock I mean that the clocks revert back to defaults as soon as i click set clocks on amd gpu clock tool/ati tool and plain dont show up on ccc / rivatuner...

I have a Radeon Mobility 9000 in a Toshiba Satellite A75-s206 laptop. I get a directx / video driver error when i try and run Allods (warcraft look alike'). This is a new development since the latest patch in the game.

I only have issues when trying to run the game, and at the moment, it wont even run, just gives me the error.

Ive seen people talkign about a mod tool from this site possibly being the answer to my prayers. any insight as to what i should do to get a driver that will work in there. ?

    Dear dansrfe,

I'm looking for the driver of AMD Radeon HD6470M / 1GB GDDR3 for Windows XP 32bit.
I spent almost a week looking for this driver but still can't find anything until I found this post of yours. I tried to use your modded driver by filling in the .INF with my device (found in the Windows 7 VGA driver):
    "AMD Radeon HD 6470M" = ati2mtag_Vancouver_PXAI, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_6760&SUBSYS_108B1462
But it failed as the Hardware Update Wizard says " An error occurred during the installation of the device. The driver selected for this device does not support Windows XP"
I had tried version 10.11 until 11.4 of your modded driver but all come out in the same result.
I'm not sure am I missing something... but I really hope you can help me out here...
Thanks a lot in advance bro...
Here is some info about my Laptop:
    Model : MSI FX-420-003X
    OS : Windows XP 32bit SP3

    Regards,
    denniscbh

    Hello Dansrfe,

thank you for your efforts! These modded drivers work like a charm on ATI Radeon 5145 on ASUS K50AF laptop. Card is recognized as 4530-4570. 5145 is renamed 4570 so it is OK. Do you plan to modify newer versions of catalysts, too? (11.4 are pretty new though)

    With best regards,

    L.

Hi there. Thank you for your efforts, it is good to see that you have helped lots of people. I am trying to be one of them but I guess I am doing something wrong. I have a "DELL INSPIRON 6400" with a "Radeon Mobility x1400" in it. I have downloaded your modded driver ver. 11.4 and I manually installed the driver as it is explained. However, after installation it gave an error. It says: "This device cannot start. (Code 10)." Then I ignored this and installed Catalyst as it is explained. It was successfully installed but after installation, it gave an error: "There are no drivers found in your system. Please install the proper drivers bla bla.." Did I do something wrong or this driver is not suitable for my computer? Can you please point me a direction??

Thanks! Just located the device ID and replaced the one in the inf file. My Radeon 4250 was listed but with a different ID. Gonna try it now on x64 XP!!

    hi dansfre,

i want start by saying thank you for your effort.
i have dell n5010 with ati radeon 5470 graphics card.
i couldn't find the drivers for xp anywhere in this world,
thank god i found it finally.

i tried to install the drivers like you mentioned but it didn't
work so i installed manually doing "have disk" way. though
the drivers work, i found that the display is not so great
the font rendering seems to be out-of-whack and in my
dell n5010 laptop brightness is set to the maximum and
the brightness buttons are not working at all, i am going
nuts to look at the bright screen. Do you have any solution
for the brightness. and how do i know if i had installed the
drivers correctly, because the quality of the display seems
    to be incomplete.

    thanks a lot
    sinbad

Thanks for the update ;)

Used v11.3 for some months and it worked good, but never got to update to v11.4 due to lack of available time.
Formatted my laptop a couple of weeks ago and now I'm going to try your v11.9 modded drivers ;)
