300 for that system seems vastly superior to the other option. 580/1700/A320.... certainly a good deal think.

Hmmm he has told me I can mix an match as long as I leave him with 3 working PCs

Theres one that has a Ryzen 7 2700 and the card is a Gigagbyte RX550 2gb I was thinking use that one switch the card out for my GTX 1050 Ti and save myself the hassle of pulling bits apart ....its really nice to have some choice for a change

He also has about 20+ laptops some nice looking ones ones have considered booting them all just to see whats what

*Jedi mind trick* You want the RX580 instead of the 1050Ti.
    Also this.

Ryzen 1700 vs 2700 not that big a deal, although maybe the 2700 system has a nicer MoBo?!

I would check the RAM specs too... you might as well get the best parts possible.

You may check those motherboards for additional onboard USB headers if that's a concern. :) My 15 years old big beige box has a front panel with two USB 2 connectors (and a FireWire that was never connected to anything), I also have a bracket that's even older than the case and goes to the rear of the case that has two more USB 2s (and some status LEDs that I doubt do anything with this mobo) and finally I have a front panel that fits into a 3.5" bay (where the floppy drive is supposed to go :D) with two USB 3 ports. With that, I have exactly doubled the number of USBs that I had with just the rear panel. :)

Once lockdown is over I can visit and see exactly what he has, might be that the cases are just what I need
