What is the best peer to peer software. Shareaza seems to take way to long to download. What do you ppl recoomend. Thanks.
I dont really use these much anymore, mainly IRC. Shareaza was terribly buggy for me. Problem with most Peer to peer applications is as you say speed. I would use overnet for my P2P searches, its probably the most reliable. downside is its very susceptable to firewalls, so you need to spend some time setting it up correctly to make sure you get the best speeds.
Bit Torrent is great- I've downloaded at up to 380kbs before. Average for me is 40 to 175kbs. Selection is quite good too- depending on where you look.
Yeah bittorrent isnt bad, I find it generally terribly slow, sometimes you get lucky with the seeds. dont know if thats classed as peer to peer though
bittorrent doesn't seem to like me much . . . I usually get 5-15 KB/s but it always manages to max out my upload speed :bleh: I like WinMX for music, and FastTrack for misc other stuff, but I haven't tried much else . . . I don't really use p2p too much
heh well tbh most of them are full of spyware/bugs. I hada big problem with iMesh it completely mashed my system. I've heard that KaZza has also... there's a list on symantac listing all the software full of bugs and spyware. I'd go for kazza-lite. You can get some fast dl's and its got quite a large number of users. and its bug FREE!!!1
People who want to try bit torrent should try burst. It is luck of the draw on upload speeds, I usually just leave it on overnight for big files (1gb or more). The trick is to find files that are new.
i prefer the emule-mods...high quality share and stable. Depending on where you life...i could also advise Filetopia for security reasons
Thanks guys I have this other problem now... PPl keep grabing my files that I am downloading and my pc is uploading - even tho i have said not to share my files. Is there a program out there that can download stuff and wont upload your files to other ppl.
I know K-light allows downloading only- you can turn off uploading. Generally people look down on "leaching" or downloading only and not uploading. Kinda like going to a nude beach with a snowsuit on- people just get pissed. - and if they can see you are leaching, they'll cut you off if at all possible. At least that's my experience, but I've only tried a few P2P programs, maybe some are different.
I've always used eDonkey. It may be somewhat slow, but I've never gotten a bad file through it. WinMX for music.
that is called leeching...and i will not advise on that....give and take is what p2p is about. Without SHARING networks will die.
If you're into BT give this program a go http://azureus.sourceforge.net/index.php I found it a few days ago & have been rather impressed.
