Have you done it? What did you use? Would you recommend it?

Although I have kept my old phone, I would like to transfer messages and contacts over to the new one. I don't change phones all that often and I'm sure there's an easy method that someone can recommend.

    Thanks!

That's why it is best to stick with one brand of phone usually. I think Samsung and Sony have a way to do this via PC, and also phone to phone, with the newer models. Not sure about other makes.

if you know someone with a galaxy S9 or S10 there is a little dongle in there that allows you to transfer all texts from one phone to another, also a windows program I used once called Dr Phone (I think)

EDIT> This was it but it looks like its gone pay to use https://drfone.wondershare.com/

no... i've done it on my galaxy s3 when migrating from one version of the OS to another via google's cloud service.

It'd be weird if android didn't have an text messaging backup service that was viable. I know the samsung one is complete garbage though.

Yeah most of Samsung's stuff is crap software wise, they are a hardware company first and foremost.

The app was suppose to work as long as both phones are connected to the same wifi network. They were, but, for some reason, only the LG phone was getting recognized. I did end up transferring what I wanted to Google Drive and then downloading to the new phone. I'm not that big of a fan on cloud storage after all the news about things being hacked. But, it did work.
