very useful guide, keep them coming!
Very comprehensive! Easy to understand with the help of illustration.
By the way, do I need to wear a non-static wrist strip before touching those components? thx.
nice to see this guide from 4 years ago is still getting hits !
If you discharge static by touching the chassis you should be ok, just dont be walking around or leaving the hardware on static surfaces. an anti static wrist strip is always a good idea if you have one however.
notebook to desktop diy
Since my laptop's warranty expired by the end of Feb 2008, I'm thinking to get the following computer components for a new budget type (desktop):
1. Abit NF-M2 Socket AM2 Motherboard
2. Crucial PC2-6400 DDR2-800 1GB
3. AMD A64x2 4000+ Dual-Core Socket AM2 CPU (ADO40001AA5DD) BOX
4. Lite-On LH-20AIP 20x DVD writer IDE
5. Acer ALi916W 19" LCD (DVI) monitor
6. Creative SB Audigy Value 7.1 PCI Sound card
7. Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate (x86) edition
8. Hitachi 120GB SATA-I hard disk
Anyone would like to offer your insight this configuration, thx.

Yeah good guide, building a pc isnt hard (you just need to be calm and careful) and its also fun as crap. Tho thats some pretty outdated hardware.
Anyways good write up!
thanks. will consider that
Very good job!
It is very detailed! And the pictures are clear!
Where it may be outdated @ hardware, the basic actions are basically the same, maybe ill do an updated one shortly, with updated hardware etc.
