I'm not a huge fan of overclocking. I mean - hardcore overclocking :p

And I really think that 2.66GHz C2D and 2x1GB of 800MHz RAM will be ok for me for some time. I still think that paying 70% more for RAM sticks to get 20% of performance increase isn't healthy.
But those reapers are really nice :> I gues I'll have to consider them.

20% performance increase just from using 1066MHz RAM instead of 800MHz? Not a chance. More like 3%, at best.

Just get a set of 800MHz RAM and run it 1:1 with a 6420 at 400MHz FSB. That would yield a clock speed of 3200MHz, more speed than you'll ever need.

since you want the 800mhz ram and like the reaper look, heres the link to the 800mhz reapers.

slightly cheaper and you get a decent OC still with an awesome look

one thing im going to say is..... that with those sticks, you are stuck with a 400mhz bus...... ChaosMinionX was able to get his CPU to a 500x7 which i believe is 3.6GHz but he still was able to bring it much further

Because you 'need it', it doesn't mean that everyone does. Not everyone needs to buy RAM 2 times more expensive than what he really needs just to get a high speed and 3-4 more FPS in a game.

And you aren't stuck at 400MHz bus if you get 800MHz sticks guys, 99% of them will be able to reach 1000MHz without much effort. 8x500 means 4GHz, it is not simple at all for a E6420 to work that high. You can easily get a system assembled costing half as much and performing 95% as well as a top end system, it is all about choosing the right parts. An E6420 running at 400MHz bus, paired with 800MHz RAM is going to be good enough for years. 1066MHz RAM will not give it 2% more actual speed.

Oh yea! i forgot my own reason for showing him the 800mhz reapers! haha i R ReTArDed!!!! but seriously the reason i showed it to him was because those sticks have D9 chips also, though lower binned, i think they can even break 1066mhz... only thing is that they may not match the low timings of the better stuff
