Hello Everybody One of my friends recently gave me a Live Drive II front panel. I own an audigy 2 ZS for some years, and I would like to connect it to the live drive. I've read through the forums, but there are a lot of informations, sometimes even contradictory. What I found is that I should make a custom cable, and the pinout is the following: purpose: Audigy2 pins: AudigyDrive pins: +5V: 1 ------------- 1 or 2, no difference... GND: 3 ------------- 3 GND: 7 ------------- 7 GND: 8 ------------- 8 GND: 14 ------------- 14 GND: 16 ------------- 16 GND: 18 ------------- 18 GND: 20 ------------- 20 GND: 28 ------------- 28 GND: 32 ------------- 32 GND: 38 ------------- 38 MIDI out: 37 ------------> 25 MIDI in: 39 <------------ 27 SPDIF0 out: 9 ------------> 17 SPDIF1 out: 29 ------------> 19 SPDIF2 out: 31 ------------> 22 SPDIF3 out: 27 ------------> 9 SPDIF in: 5 <------------ 15 try 6 instead of 15) AC97CLK/P16V 24.5MHz: 13 ------------> 4 I2S1 (Aux2): 19 <------------ 33 I2S2(ALine-in2/Mic2): 21 <------------ 31 GPI0: 35 <------------ 23 GPI1: 33 <------------ 24 GPO0: 25 ------------> 13 GPO1: 23 ------------> 10 GPO2: 24 ------------> 11 On the bay itself there are 2 connectors: AUD_EXT and AUD_EXT 2. Which one should I connect ?
AUD_EXT...... I believe the AUD_EXT2 is a pass through but not positive about that. Good luck with your custom cable.
According to this thread http://www.hardwareheaven.com/general-discussion/53644-aud_ext_2-live-driveii.html it looks like they are different connectors.
Right..... I still have my Live Drive IR in use and wasn't about to rip the system apart to check the silkscreen logo to be sure. But I regress..... Some of those pins on AUD_EXT2 are pass-through, some are different, in either case if you are trying to make a cable that hooks an AD_EXT card to an AUD_EXT drive you would be connecting to the AUD_EXT port, not the AUD_EXT2 port. That was your question, correct?
I've used the pinout diagrams for the AUD_EXT to hook two cards together via SPDIF and those pins were correct. This only uses 2 pin though, so I haven't checked the whole diagram. There are a few other sites that have these pinouts listed as well. Do a google search for "AUD_EXT pinout"..... I know there was a pinout . ru or something like that, it has pinouts for just about anything. You can always find a few listings and compare them to see if they match..... better than just using one you aren't sure about. You don't want to fry your card or the drive.
I've found on pinouts.ru the pinouts for the 2 connectors. Here they are in case anybody needs them. It looks like the wiring is correct. In the weekend I'll make the cable and report back.
Cool, Man! The digital/optical and MIDI would be the ones I would figure least likely to have issues so they are probably working also. How are the noise levels and what type of cabling did you end up with? Is it just a flat cable with one end "twisted" or did you do something different?
I've used a standard 40 pin IDE cable and i've cut it and resoldered the pins that were needed. It took me half a day, and I work in domain Due to the fact that the communication between the livedrive and the card is digital, you cannot expect for sound degradation, however, the DACs and ADCs on the livedrive are lower quality then those found on the audigy 2 ZS, so you could get worse values, if measured with professional instruments. However I did not notice any difference with my headphones.
