You guys do realize this virus has killed more Americans than WW I at its current standings, right?
Pretty viscous hoax... innit
It's not a hoax, it's a conspiracy! One which has every medical personnel, every official in every country, every gravedigger in the world. Not to mention all the dead and their families who were really brave to take part in this conspiracy.
The situation is hard to assess here. We now officially have a surge of cases. The published numbers still aren't higher than they used to be, but it seems that we all know of more people who have had the disease than we did during the "main" wave. The situation in a couple of towns in the south that have a large Muslim population has been reported as serious and even dire since a few days after the Ramadan, although it's hard to distinguish the truth from the politics there (but it's certainly not good). A news outlet reported that in another town they had 21 positive cases out of 21 tested people yesterday, with over a hundred more people with symptoms, but with no tests left at the local hospital. Here in Belgrade, my office mate just heard from a friend who went to one of the Covid clinics to get tested because he had high temperature and had lost the senses of smell and taste. They sent him back home saying that he was "fine and definitely doesn't have corona, no need to test him and is safe to go to work on Monday if he feels better". It turned out that a mutual friend who's a doctor was recently transferred to the same clinic and she told him that he should have called her, she knows the colleagues who were on call when he went there and that they were running low on test and are now definitely running out.
The official narrative is that everything is fine and, while we're currently testing slightly fewer people than we could, it's fine as there aren't that many cases and therefore we're just being slightly conservative in order to save more tests for the second wave.
Sounds like the US.... "If we just stop testing people, there will be fewer cases"
That was a funny joke, it's amazing how many heads it went over....
you're not one of those that it went over right?
Trump supporters "it was a joke"
The very next day

Had a friend over tonight. At one point she told us that they had sent everyone at her work to get the serologic test and hers came back positive for antibodies, but the indicator that says whether she still has the virus in her system was negative.
A full 60 hour curfew was announced for Belgrade last night. There was immediately a spontaneous protest over mishandling of the crisis by the government: we had very restrictive measures that probably weren't actually that well thought through and effective; then we announced that we've "beaten corona" and abolished all measures so that we could have elections; then, from the first day after the voting, the number of new cases has been spiking (even though even those numbers are highly suspicious) and now we're reintroducing the most restrictive measures again. Also, the address by the president was highly insulting, blaming the people for the resurgence of the virus. So, obviously, people flipped. Despite that, the protests were peaceful at first, until a group of right wingers (probably sent from above) came to the Parliament and pushed their way into the lobby. The police reaction towards them was very subdued, they pushed them out very gently, and then, after everything became fairly peaceful again, they deployed tear gas and started beating people. Of course, only one TV station reported on the events as they were happening, while others were playing dumb last night, whereas today they are spinning the story, as all of them are running the same "Here's what Belgrade looks like after the last night's violence" story.
EDIT: We'll have a new address from the president at 3PM, things are going to get crazy.Although they do seem to be starting to back-paddle on their last night's statements at about 3.6kbps (kilo back-paddles per second).
I can't say I disagree that in the majority of cases (all countries) it is the people's fault for spreading the virus. The amount of stupidity and "I don't give a fuck" from people is astonishing. Plus all the morons claiming there is no real threat. Fucking morons.
A member of the "National Crisis Management HQ" has stated at the beginning of the crisis (as Italy was disintegrating) that it's "the most ridiculous virus in history, which exists on the Internet" and that "women should especially not worry at all because estrogen protects them, and that instead they should book shopping tours to Milan for the 8th of March, because the sales will be great". This was on national television with the president standing behind him. The same guy said repeatedly during March and then during April that "the worst part is already behind us", that he's "against restrictive measures", then on one interview that "he's almost sure he had the virus early on; no, he didn't get tested, there was work to be done; no, he didn't infect anyone else, because he was being socially responsible", he also said many times that "the virus will just disappear in the summer because of the heat and UV rays and definitely won't make it past June" (he was not alone in this), then, after the state of emergency was rescinded that "now is the time for all of us to get infected"... And yes, he's still in the Crisis Management HQ. So, yeah, the people were getting somewhat mixed messages.
Also, apart from the mixed signals, we have been lied to about factual things. The president said that we bought 4000 respirators, but we don't seem to have more than 400 in operation, the numbers of infected and deceased seem to be heavily doctored, the medical supply chain is disorganized, leading to shortages of even those materials we do have (but all shortages are denied, a local hospital in a small town that's currently badly affected was compared to a "space ship" by the prez, who claimed that it's as fine a hospital as any in Germany). Also, the measures we had were geared towards strictness and not efficiency (severely limited open hours for supermarkets created crowds; the number of people inside them was restricted, but that meant that first one waited in an often unmanageable line and then inside people were being spurred to be quick, so they were all crowding around the essentials). All that time, while people were being mostly obedient, we were listening what One Man has done for us and how we're undermining all his effort and no graveyard will be big enough of we keep it up. News portals were running articles next to each other, in one rould be a picture from a park from abroad and those people would be praised for finding a way to work out and stay safe, the article literally next to that one would have pictures from our parks and headlines such as "Are these people even sane?!"
In short, we were being given completely mixed messages by the same institutions, from "the worst is behind us" to "We're nearing the Italian and Spanish scenario" (the latter one was delivered by SMS to all citizens), we were kept under lock for two months, then suddenly public transport was back, football matches with audience were back, and of course the elections, and then as soon those were done, the daily numbers changed and restrictions came back. And any wall of text I'd write would only be a fraction of all the crap. IMO, the officials should be held criminally responsible.
Ok, I didn't know your officials were morons.
Sounds like what our previous government would have done.
Thanks man, at this point, I really have no idea how things are going to play out. Our politicians are morons and the ordinary people are split on whether the government is downplaying the crisis because they can't manage it, or they are exaggerating it in order to curtail our freedom and create a diversion from "real issues" (well, in the Balkans, we are never short on issues).
The president has just repeated a bunch of times that he won't allow anyone to spin the last night's events, because nobody got hit by police while simply going for a walk. In other news, some footage from last night:
I saw that, wtf? Guys were just sitting there.
