    _____________________________

How high end can a prebuilt get? How about partnering up a few nVidia 7900GTX 512 MB cards in SLI with a FX60 and several hard drives including a half a terrabyte file drive with a Raptor X for boot up? Then wrap it all up in foam soundproofing.....

Im going to benchmark this machine in all the modern titles at 1920x1200 with eye candy maxed to the hilt, to see if it performs as well at it sounds.

Holy shit that's one sweet system! Btw, in the Oblivion test, where were you testing at? Given the frame rates shown, I'd assume everywhere, since indoors tend to be the least taxing and outdoors the most.

The machine is ugly as hell...so I am "so going to hell for that remark", but I hate the design..
    but the performance is awesome...
still a tough choice for me.

You said the exact same thing in the last alienware review - without even a single comment on the hardware, internal work, scores or attention to detail. design as with art is all personal taste. I personally think the case is exceptional, both for layout, cooling, the piano black design curves and the "giger/alien" look which is instantly recognisable as an alienware machine, what other "prebuilt" company has this instantly recognisable look....... none. So going on that alone its a design classic.

maybe this is more to your taste Jeff

Sony comes close....but yea....very good point [Sony is also the same "love/hate" style too, come to think of it]

Sweet lookign system....I want to know, though, is techsupport the XPS team, or the normal craptastic overseas garbage, now that Dell owns em...or was Dell smart enough to leave them alone and let them do their own thing, just with a different name on the paycheck?

Well I don't know if it has changed since Dell bought them over, but alienware support in the UK always went through Ireland.

Very thoughtful and thorough review Allan. I actually liked the fact that Alienware decided to forego the use of RAID with the unit - yet going with the Raptor drive for the otherwise fastest possible boot and system file access times, with the huge and extremely high throughput SATA2 storage drive. That configuration makes a lot of sense for a user that wants a combination of great speed and high reliability with the least amount of headaches for drive configuration and setup.

Well you can configure Raid or get it preconfigured in the order with two of the Raptor X hard drives....... ONE of them alone is REALLY fast !

Unfortunaly we hear that zardon is now suffering from radiation poisoning from the fusion power supply need to run that monster.

Who says reviewing the latest and greatest toys isn't dangerous.
