Nonsensical? How so?
Were no private schools in Sweden for people who weren't filthy rich when I went to school. Private schools that didn't cost insanely much didn't start to emerge until the 90's. So, I went to public school from start to the very end, I graduated high school in 1987.
Not gonna go into swedish politics here but I'm glad I went through school before the reformation in the early 90's. School today is pitiful and private schools have only contributed to make things worse. Nothing good has come out of them.
Well, in the Netherlands I went to public school and didn't even know private schools existed.
We didn't get lunch, we had to bring our own and if we didn't, we went hungry. Same deal in high school. High school was farther away from where I lived so I couldn't go home during recess to eat anymore. I just took a packed lunch with me. There was a cafeteria mind you, but it only sold crap and I didn't want to waste my hard-earned money on food if I could just make lunch at home.
I didn't get an allowance and had to work for anything that I wanted. I did help around the house but that was just what was expected; you are part of the household and thus you help out with running the place. I didn't get paid for that. Luckily my neighbour was the owner of a car dealership and I got a job as a groomer there when I was 15. I've kept that job going for nearly 5 years. I even totalled 2 of their cars, but the only thing they said was 'probably better if you don't drive cars for a while'.
In any case, back to the school system. I never went to uni in the Netherlands even though it's heavily subsidised (Socialism FTW!). But the friends I have that did go, have nothing bad to say about it.
Unfortunately the NZ goverment does not subsidise for international students so I had to pay an arm and a leg... I don't regret my choices whatsoever though.
Went to a private school from elementary to high school.
My 2 kids also studied in a private school.
I went to public school from elementary till high school. When i am in college i went to private school. I think it doesn't matter if your in a public or a public school for as long as your learning.
I was able to study in a private catholic school all the way from kindergarten to college. Just like my kids, I sent them to private schools also. By the way, I have no regrets about it so far.
