dell laptops are great. You wont be doing much high resolution gaming with a X300 however. Looks like a good business machine.

dells have their own little unfortunate problems. I've never really been happy with any recent dell machine. I have an old CPx which is actually fairly reasonable but unfortunately has absolutely NO driver support (using official dell drivers doesnt work) Still its a good little machine.

I still prefer using other brands. I hear alot of people saying "Dell is the best" or "Toshiba is the best" or "Sony is the best"...the ONLY laptop that I've used that hasnt given me any lip is a Compaq. Yes thats right...a Compaq. If I get another PC laptop(which is in question since I prefer desktops anyway) I'm not going to buy from Dell, Toshiba, Sony, or IBM. I'll probably get a FalconNW though.

Got numerous laptops lying around, the two in my sig being the most recent and to be honest I dont use them. Unless you have a specific need/use for a laptop then half the money you pay would be better invested in a desktop.
I have trouble understanding these middle-ground laptops. They are not powerful enough for gaming yet are overpowered for word or office type docs, it seems to me they add the cheapest version of the current tech in the hope that people with little knowledge will buy them (not that im suggesting that in anyway).
From viewing a lot of your posts Falstaff over the years I see you do a lot of photowork and editing, I think you'd be better off going with a raw power processor and not worrying to much about the gpu. That price tag seems pretty excessive.
When your purchase does arrive for Gods sake make sure you sit correctly and never do the slouching on the floor thing, my laptops just about crippled me and I still get backpains.

IIRC, jeff travels ALOT so he'd probably have a good use for a laptop, and he'd need more power than general word processing for his photoshop/photography hobbies

Congrats Falstaff on the new notebook. Like Allan said, Dell laptops are very good portable rigs for the money. Hope you enjoy!

Hmmm? No I cannot say I have Jeff. I can't say I blame them though for trying to be me.

Okay that was full of B.S., hehe. I have been waiting for Godsmack to come out with some new stuff. Untill then I have been listening to Crossfade, Breaking Benjamin, Theory of a Dead Man and some vintage Van Halen.

Anywho, back on topic. Jeff When are you expected to recieve your shiny new laptop?
