I just wanted to know if anyone knew of any free DVD Decoders or software for enabling DVD Play. I run XP Pro and just found out Windows Media Player currently doesn't have a DVD Decoder installed...went to Micrsofts website and found out they want you to pay for this....suprise, suprise

    Thanks

Any software that decodes DVD software MUST Pay royalties to the MPAA so there is not "free" Decoders unfortunately

If you have your driver CD for your graphics card from ATI you then can download the codecs to play DVD's. If not borrow a someone elses since you do actually own an ATI card.

Well hold it is your laptop a Dell? You should be able to ask them for the correct CD to do this if you don't already have it.

Actually there are free decoders. They just weren't made in America =)

For free decoders, go to http://www.doom9.org/ then the download section, then Filters, then download the "Fraunhofer video and audio codecs - allows DVD playback in WMP"

    Much Appreciated

I'll give those links a look. Thank you. Looked at that WinDVD program...pretty sweet set-up, but doesn't fit the "free" catagory...but pretty nice nonetheless. I will look into your provided links, thanks again
