Hey I'm wondering if anyone knows of a good program I can download for free to rip DVD's with. Thanks a lot.

I'm assuming you are doing this for personal backup, and not for some 'other' reason. In that case I would give these 2 programs a try:

DVD Decryptor for extraction (will remove protection so you can copy them), and DVD Shrink (will allow for compressing larger movies, ones that are 8+ gigs onto a DVD5, 4.7 gig disk). Normally you would use Decryptor to remove the protection from the discs onto the hard drive, then use Shrink to compress them and burn the movies back to DVD.

If you google around you will find sites dedicated to DVD backup, including Doom9, and others. Also, if you do some searching in these forums you will find similar guides and help too.

Yeah, it's legal. I just picked up Blind Guardian's Imaginations Through the Looking Glass and don't feel like putting the DVD in whenever I want to watch it. For any fans of metal, I highly recommend it. \m/ The Guardian of the Blind \m/

There is a group of FREE apps that you can use. First, you would probably want these two apps - download and install them and your life will be easier:

    DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0:

    http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/DVD_Decrypter/1011845169/1

    DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15:

    http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/DVD_Shrink/1050004458/1

Neither one has been updated to handle the latest protections. So by themselves, they may not be enough.

A very cool program has been released called RipIt4Me. It is a front end for DVD Decrypter that adds support for the latest protections. You can download the installer from this page:

    http://www.ripit4me.org/download.html

Here is a link directly to the Installer version:

    http://www.ripit4me.org/RipIt4Me Installer.exe

The Installer version contains RipIt4Me and the FixVTS program. If you download and install that version over top of DVD Decrypter, it should set everything up so all you have to do is run the main RipIt4Me program and it will call all the programs you need, including giving an option of opening the ripped disk directly into DVD Shrink for re-authoring or direct backup.

So, I use RipIt4Me to rip the DVD to my hard drive, which removes all the copy protection junk too.

Then I open the disk in DVD Shrink and I usually do a Re-Author and specify the main movie only, getting rid of all menus and stuff. But you can do a direct backup with all of the menus and such in tact, and it will just shrink it to fit on a single layer DVD 4.3gb blank.

Feel free to PM me if you have need of more detailed help.

    Good luck

AutoGordianKnot (after you use DVD43 (freeware)) to remove the copy-protection.

Your best bet would be to get it off another site that is mirroring it, such as Softpedia HERE.

    Slysoft sucks.

They promised folks free lifetime upgrades, then they charge 'em $30 more for a higher capacity format.

    What a ripoff.

But some people keep defending them, even if they got ripped off themselves. People are so willing to take it in the shorts and not complain. It's kind of a bummer. Can't folks see them for the scumbag liars they are and take a stand?

Hopefully, people will do just that.

Use the FREE DVDFab HD Decrypter instead of forking out cash for what should have been a free update from Slysoft.

The reason they're doing it is because the folks that have the burners for this content are few & far between. So they're hoping to make some cash off those folks that can afford the burners. Plus the only thing it's good for right now is for those w/ a player/burner but don't have a card/display w/ HDCP. The more you think about the less point there is in asking money for it.

They're still being scummy about it. Lifetime updates are supposed to be FOR LIFE, right?

    Thank goodness for free alternatives.

Well they are a company out to make money, and they are still updating the software for users. You don't have to pay the extra bit to get the added features. However, I do think it should be free and/or cost a whole hell less than $30.000 I think $5.00 would be a nice fair price but it BETTER break all upcoming releases if some one pays for it.

There is no reason to resurrect a 7 (last reply) year old thread.
