Due to AMD's Never Settle Reloaded, I'm getting the add-on for Far Cry 3 totally free. I had some trouble last night getting the promo code to activate but it has been resolved since then. The title is presently downloading to my games folder as I write this. Average d/l speed: 1.5 mbytes/sec.

EDIT/UPDATE: OK, I now have a couple of hours under my belt and this game is so far "over-the-top" hilarious it's hard to explain. But, just take it from me, it's a load of fun! If it was a movie, I'd call it a "spoof" on a serious movie.

SOB. I wish Steam would send a notification when a pre-order becomes available for download.

So, have you gotten it installed yet?

I'm at L-13 just now and really want to keep playing...

BUT, I've got to go to work later today and have to get some zzzzz's.

Yep. Got it installed, and played to about character lvl 6 (just got my first upgrade). Not a great game by any means, but it is fun... and oh man does it slap you in the face with 80s nostalgia, funny at times too. Terminator/Predator/Robocop styled music, a ton of kudos towards Predator and a lot of other 80s games/movies. Not to mention that it only took me an hour to realize it's Michael Biehn doing the voice of the main character.

This game is just fun... and it only cost me $15 (free for those like Dyre that got it with their $$$.$$ video card :p;) ).

    Long Tall Sally, baby.

Oh... BTW: Nvidia users should have Ambient Occlusion set to HBAO while AMD users should be using HDAO.

How do you feel about UPlay? Cuz, it uses it... even the Steam version.

    On a side note:

"Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon’s DX11 seems buggy at the moment, especially when players enable the higher levels of MSAA, or when they try to downsample it. Even though downsampling worked fine under DX9, it caused severe slowdowns under DX11. Not only that, but our GPU usage dropped to mid-50s for no apparent reasons. Similar to downsampling, MSAA brings the same performance issues; any higher than 2xMSAA and our GPU usage was dropping to mid-50s. This is a really bizarre behavior and we are not really sure why it’s happening. Our advice, at this point, is to avoid using more than 2xMSAA (unless of course you want to run Blood Dragon in DX9 mode and downsample it)."

This explains all the trouble I've been having with trying to run MSAA.

The same I feel about Origin. I don't like it and I don't use it.
Thankfully there is a PS3 demo which I will try later.

I've played just a wee bit more since my last post and attained L-17.

EDIT/UPDATE: I finished the main quest. And, without giving anything away, I'll just say this: I'm not at all pleased with the way they brought the main quest to an end. I really think I would have been much happier if I had a bit more involvement in doing it.

I just wish I could turn off the damn animation when you go to rip out hearts. Such a tedious task, especially since I'm maxed out, yet just going near the body in order to replenish some sort of ammo type, the only reason I still have to do the heart ripping is that it's the only way to gain money. Ugh!

Unlike you, Dyre, I've been doing all the side quests first, the garrisons, and what not. I think I'm at around lvl 21 or so.

I kind of got suckered into completing the main quest. I would advise anyone else playing this to do like you: Go after all the garrisons and any hunts and rescues first.

a bit late on the uptake, but when Steam has it for $7.50, hard to say no - have a few hours down on it, level 27 or 28, absolutely ridiculous is all I can say

As for me original Far Cry 3 is better, but as people say, every man to his own taste.

I prefer original Far Cry 3, very good but also it's matter of personal taste as Alexstone23 says.

I'm with the Far Cry 3 is better crowd. I really enjoyed that and one of my daughters in law played it on 360 and said it's the best video game she's ever played. And, THAT is something coming from her. She's as much a gamer as my son and I are.
