    Are we restricted to just the games that were released in 2012? I ask because there are a few games I acquired/purchased in 2012 that were actually released previously but I got them after the price came into my realm of satisfaction.

    With that in mind...and in no real particular order:

    *Diablo III
    Skyrim
    *Mass Effect 3
    *Halo 4
    *Far Cry 3
    Burn Out: Paradise
    Just Cause 2

    Games I have in an ongoing condition:

    Star Trek Online

    Honorable Mentions:

    *Max Payne III (Probably just a once through game for me.)

    *Games released in 2012 as revised

    Of course games released in 2012, I bought several great games from previous years too. So, for this list, just games released in 2012.

    I edited my original post to clarify the question. Thanks.

    Thinking about it, most of my gaming last year was older titles. The only 2012 released that I can remember playing are:

    Euro Truck Simulator 2
    Dishonored
    Beat Hazard
    Orcs Must Die! 2
    Dear Esther (not sure if this is correctly categorised as a game)

    Of those, I nominate Dishonored for my GOTY.

    There are quite a few 2012 games I'm itching to try when I can find the time, though.

    Well, since we're focusing on 2012. titles, this is going to be a really short list:
    • Dishonored - what looked like cyberpunk Assassin's Creed and thus a way to pass the time while waiting for the real thing turned out to be an excellent game;
    • Assassin's Creed III - the most awaited game of the year for me;
    • Mark of the Ninja - a small, but enjoyable old-school 2D stealth-action platformer.

    I would say that, despite all the flaws, out of these, AC III is my GOTY.

    Honorable mentions (noteworthy games I played in 2012. that were released a year earlier):
    • Deus Ex: Human Revolution - definitely one of the best games I've ever played;
    • Anomaly: Warzone Earth - an interesting little "tower attack" game
    • Crysis 2 - flawed, but fun and good looking.

    I've been surprised at the amount of people who've said AC3 was something really worth playing. I feel like I ought to play AC1 first, though :oops:

    If we're having an honerable mentions list, the legend from 2004 that is Gran Turismo 4 had a great second lease of life for me in 2012, as I discovered PCSX2 (a PS2 emulator). Currently at 75% completion. League of Legends was also a big discovery for me last year, as was the vehicle sandbox Rig of Rods. I also picked up Deus Ex and SC2 for the first time in 2012 :)

    Guild Wars 2, Dishonored and Far Cry 3 for me in that order. I really loved all three of them. Honorable mention goes to Torchlight 2, for being all the things Diablo 3 wasn't.

    Just bought Sleeping Dogs and Hitman on a Steam sale. Haven't had a chance to really form an opinion on them yet.

    AC3 suffered from, most likely, huge ambition mixed with the necessity to ship on time (without spoiling much, this was a game that had to go out before a certain date for the sake of its story). The single player is fairly (though not game-breakingly) buggy and unoptimized and occasionally, there is a lack of detail unthinkable in the previous games. Example: games from AC2 onwards have had assassination side missions; in all of them before AC3, each mission had some background story, structure and constraints; here, there were no individual missions or any background story, just a bunch of targets on the map and all of those characters used an identical model! :wtf:

    But fortunately, most of the game was done to a much higher standard and so despite all the flaws, it's grand, fun, involving and gives the ending to a saga that now spreads across five games.

    As for the original AC, it's not perfect either, but it's probably my dearest game of the series. If you get hooked on the story, on looking at the world, on being shouted and cursed at in Arabic, English, French and German (depending on whether it's the locals or members of one of the crusader armies that are after you at the moment), you'll love it. If not, you'll have a blast with the first third of the game and then it will probably become a bit repetitive almost to the end.

    Still, at least for that first third, it's worth a try, especially since you can find it really cheap on discount from time to time. As for me, I think I did three full playthroughs. :lol:

    EDIT: AC and AC2 give us 90% of the "big picture" of the series (and of that, 60 is in AC, 30 in AC2). It would not be impossible to enjoy later games without playing those two, but they give a beautiful and well thought out presentation of the story which otherwise might seem so and so.

    I think that's perfectly acceptable - play them when they're cheap :)

    think I've only spent time playing a couple games released in 2012: WRC 3, and CS:GO

    thought Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad might be in there, but that was 2nd half of 2011 apparently
    played some Dirt:Showdown too, it's pretty decent, harmless mindless fun, but i wouldn't particularly 'rate it'
    pretty sure even Uncharted 3 was 2011. i don't play enough new games clearly :lol:
    anywho WRC 3 is awesome ;)

    Cool :) My prob is that I am very specific with games. IE, I like WW2 pretty much exclusively. Did a count of 20 old XP era games and 12 were WW2. Thinking about ST:Online though.

    Star Trek Online is really shaping up nicely. My older son and his friends are online every single night doing Fleet Missions. :cool:

    Is it orientated towards team play?

    If you can get a few of your friends to join with you, it's definitely a team effort to finish the fleet missions. When we do fleet missions, each member is assigned certain tasks in order to help complete the mission successfully.

    Mmm, what I feared in a way. A lot of my mates seem to think that Apple invented anything electronic. In saying that, one is a trek fan like myself. Guess I would have to do a Kirk and wing it. Do they (the site) not have a game lobby so you can join requests for players? Some of the vids do look good though.
