I think Greece is beyond the point of no return with all due respect.
Funny thing with "all due respect" and "I mean no disrespect", they seldom do.
Well I mean it, I'm no politician. But rest assured we're going to have a global depression soon.
Greece suffers from the simple fact that the government was and is corrupt.
I bet he'd do well in negotiations with the IMF.
And dodging taxes was done by every one
Not everyone. I never stole anything, including tax, and I don't owe a single euro to anyone.
I am sure there are others.
Yeah but you might had services that didn't had VAT on the final bill.
If someone else tax evades without me knowing it, hardly my fault.
Depends how one look at things....
So if I sell you something and without you knowing it I somehow steal the taxman, you are responsible for it? Dude...dude!!!!
That isn't what I meant.
What I've understood is that in the past the payments in restaurants for example didn't got counted by the cash register. Now everyone was happy with this even the customers. The customers were contributing to this type of tax evasion by providing the cash to it. The restaurant owner and the staff are responsible in the tax evading. And I heard that this type of action was common in many areas in the private sector.
The local IRS equivalents have inspectors who check exactly that kind of things. They go to a bar, order something, see if they get a proper bill. They can also demand that the money from the register and waiters' purses be counted and checked against the official records. If a place is found to be in violation, it is fined and temporarily closed. That works like magic against that sort of tax evasion and when the IRS itself decides to do its own actual job, they can be very efficient at it (case in point: Croatia); when their inspectors play solitaire whole day and just wait for their monthly paycheck, then shop owners are left free to evade taxes (case in point: Serbia, probably Greece).
Greece has been shafted by the EU and everybody else who just piled debt on them because they wanted to steal its resources.
Partly, but blaming others for letting them fuck you repeatedly is anything from cowardly to stupid, to lazy. Even more so when you are doing this to yourself to begin with.
You can't change your country without changing yourself first.
Greece over valued their own currency and lied about their financial situation to bet into the EU in the first place.
AFAIK, back during the time they were were still using drachma, Greece fought to limit the increase in value of their own currency as well as they could because it hurt their tourism and other branches of economy.
