I use Sygate (the free version) on top of the hardware firewall in my router, I've used most of them, Norton, Kerio, Zone Alarm, and Sygate has given me the least problems.

In case you're wondering why I use software as well - its for the application layer gateway stuff, so I know whats trying to connect to where and can block it if I want to!

    ZoneAlarm is the best
Im using the e-trust version, but same thing, just the name copied
Norton just doesn't seem to do anything right.
