some of you may have noticed, some not, but Driverheaven is now totally open to non members viewing.
may I ask... why the change?
I could think of an nice answer, but I was outvoted.
to bad i wasn't in theat argument
this will hurt membership #'s,
if you didn't make it members only in the first place it quite possable and likely
that i and many others could of never signed up and became active
well that was my theory as well neon, but anyway everything is done fair and square. it went to a vote.
I assume this means one still has to be a member to post? I hope
well yes, when I said above we voted. I have limits ! guests can only view.
O yes thanks alot zardon i really like this idea becuz when im at school at 7th period i help teach kids about computers so i drop by the site all the time and i dont really like loging on from other pc's or it just takes alot longer cuz the internets sorta slow there
i notcied that about 3 days ago i was really happy
thanks agian dude
I'm actually for the idea of being able to view without registering.
In many ways, I think it will actually enhance and encourage more people to join. It's like being able to window shop so that you can determine the quality of the goods without having to actually purchase anything. Once you're sold on the quality, registering should be an easy step.
I had to look twice when I saw the thread title.
I think it will be good for the site Zardon. Time will tell though.
Can I be shocked, I think I'm shocked. :hmm:
Congratulations and I think it'll work out well for you also, although if I haven't mentioned I'm a little shocked to hear it. (I really never thought I'd see the day, I really didn't...did I mention I'm a bit shocked?)
Wow, this is a GOOD THING(tm) and I think it'll surprise you with it's positive reactions.
I think it's a great idea! Let the site be seen for what it is and the people here that make it what it is.
So many have said in the past what a great place this is and are even privileged to be here - I'm one of them, and just one (thank God! ).
I like the idea. It will allow more people to view the site without the hassle of having to sign up just to see what the site has to offer. Kind of a try before you buy thingy>> Then when they go through the forums....and see how nice the atmosphere is here.....and the amount of information to be had.......the membership #'s will climb nicely.
I totally agree with you bud, this could turn out to be a good thing.
i found many good change have been made since my 1st visited this site in June/July 2002,imo, i think we treat new member a whole lot nicer these days, good chance to improve and get even more good new members.
Never spotted the vote - I must admit, I prefer to browse a while before joining a forum - though ons some, I am an "eternal guest".
Seems to have been a bit slow fopr the past couple of days, is that guests and massed ranks of search engine spiders?
Even with guest access, some areas should be members only - the offtopic/debate type areas, and especially the FLAME WARZONE.
And indeed, it's nice to have some areas where you know that you are not being watched by every casual observer, especially where it may get somewhat contentious!
Just to inform the DH staff that proper /robots.txt might help ease the server load in case of search engine(s) targetting the forums now that they are open to all..
Hmm, do guest views of threads count as views?
It wasn't a public vote, it was between some admins in an MSN conversation . As for site speed, it's been about average for me lately.
Who's Online includes 105 (Visible and Invisible) members and 228 guests on the boards
It takes 40 seconds for every page to come up- I sit and wait for almost a minute for every time I click view, reply , or anything- The site is as sluggish as I have ever seen while still being able to load up at all.
It was always a little slow, which is fine, but this is ridiculous.
Unless there are some other issues today, is this what is causing the sluggishness?
