We have an english springer spaniel, she is 14. Her back legs have basically gone and she is having problems breathing, I was up all night with her.

Going to have to take her to the vets today in a few hours time to get her put down, seems the only humane thing to do.

    Quite a sad day :(

Really sorry to hear that - our 8 year old labradore had to be put down just before Christmas for similar reasons.
Pets are family members and friends, its never nice to lose a friend.

I am sorry for your eventual loss. I have lost 3 dogs in my life time and I know how bad it can feel. Do yourself a favour and be with her when it happens.

Your dog must have had a wonderful life, with love and patience your pet became a member of your family and I know you will miss her terribly. I dont want to sound callous but perhaps a puppy will cheer you up a bit and fill any void left by your dogs passing.

Sorry to read this... i know how it feels, this from having to take my Pet cat to the vets around 4-5 years ago...Even though she was around 13 year old and quite fit.

She had a cancer tumor (A very Rare form she had) removed from her face just below her eye.Due to the op back then it left very little skin for a second op if it returned..In due course it did return..and i left it as long as possible.. After some time the was only the one thing left to do,and i will never forget how that felt.

I could not bring myself to sit with her,and knowing that once she went through one door that was the last i seen of her..she is missed and i never felt the need to acquire a replacement.. she is missed dearly.

I believe that Animals tend to be more reliable and predictable than people as well, well, at least dogs do. I prefer dogs over cats, something more noble about them I suppose, but I am a big dog guy though, on my grandfathers ranch they were big enough to keep the cattle and sheep in their place and chase off a skunk or fox or coyote.

My parent put down ours, my first dog, a few months ago. A beagle, and the best dog I've ever seen. It's strange, but even though I've been out of their house for years, been away from the dog, and have a family of my own (including a dog), it's was still quite difficult when it happened. They really do become a family member.

reminds me of the dogs our family had over the years, a Bernersenner and a sarplaninac (Yugoslav Shepherd Dog). Both of them had to put to sleep...
get tears in my eyes thinking about them... I love dogs.

my condolences Zardon, I know how it feels.

    Sorry to hear this Zardon.

Had to have our German Short-haired Pointer put down last tuesday, only 10 year old but he developed a untreatable cancer that was crushing his heart. Amazing how they seem to know, he made an extra effort the day before we took him to the vets and despite the pain was bouncing round like a puppy. He's left me with a good memory.

Not much you can do in a situation like that. My toy collie passed quite a few years back, and there isn't a day I don't think of her.
