Google has announced that it is releasing a new set of application programming interfaces (APIs) in the form of an open-source project called Google Gears. Google Gears has nothing to do with War and everything to do with allowing web developers to create applications that can still do useful work even if the user is offline.

Useful, especially as MS removed the ability to make web pages available offline when it introduced IE7.
