    I reckon the 3820 would be powerful enough for pretty much everyone. Only intensive 3D rendering or video encoding can really use anything more.

    Don't go for that Xeon. It lacks hyperthreading, has low clock speed and isn't overclockable. If you can't afford the 3820, sell the board and get a 3570K and Z77, or a nice meal out (edit: and an i3?) or something.

    Really any quad core solution is likely to be overkill for your needs, but the Xeon is just bad value.

    Well, nothing will happen until september anyway. Don't want to use my vacation budget for this. :p
