I use mine all the time to update my bioses I had to trash all of my 720kb floppies due to win XP does not support them and cannot format them either in winxp
I have 2 1'x1/2'x2' drawers filled with 3 1/4 floppies. I have like 70 5 1/2 disks I have 7 8 inch disks
I've still got my old Microsoft DOS 5.0 diskettes! Hell, I even have IBM DOS 3.30 with the proof of license (big-ass manual)!! I still have an old bootdisk that had cd-rom, zip-drive, and syquest-drive support! Damn, those were the days.... Oh yeah, I do have those ram-tester/burner type utilities on a diskette so that counts. ~eyeguy616
ya..still have floppies...i use them for school personally i would rather use USB pen drive instead, but my school has this idea that someone is going to 'bring a virus and crash the whole network'....their pretty stupid....as for the floppies that clutter my desk, i have figured out that they actually make a better coaster for my drink than for acutally using them for saving stuff on them...??
And you can't bring a virus on a floppy? your school has problems.. Virus's aren't exactly large... I quite sure that you could fit one on the old 8" floppies.. And a deadly one too.
I own you all! Let's see, I must have two or three boxes of 720k floppies with CP/M software, including Borland Pascal, WordStar, and a couple of games for the ZX Spectrum. Too bad I don't have anything that would run CP/M. And - I think - two boxes of 8"ers - brand new, in celophane, lol.
Nope, they made 8" disks, they held 320K of data. The reader for them is huge, its about the size of 2 standard tower cases.
Wasn't it 360k? For the double sided, the SS had 180k. But you could "oc" a SS to a DS by making another hole in the sleeve
I got rid of the FDD several years ago when I bought me a CD/RW drive. I couldn't find the use for FDD anymore. Ah! And it was busted maybe a year before buying the CD/RW. I didn't bother to buy another and I was glad I did. I would strip the FDD controller from my mainboard if I could. I hate floppies
5 1/2 rule over everything floppy related! Hate to dig up the past, but the coolest were 5 1/2 floppies which could be formatted to 1.45 mo. Those used to rock in the pre pentium days.
I remember punching holes for 720/1.4M !!!! Speaking of punching holes ...................... How may of you guys had Cardreaders as a part of your grade nine ........ Curriculum ??????????????? :wtf: :wtf:
Like punch card readers or credit card readers? I have 2 punch card readers and 5 credit card readers.
I didn't punch 'holes' but I did punch 'notches' in my 5 1/2" floppies. In fact, I still have one of those little notch punchers in my desk drawer. What a relic!!! LOL
the old stack of floppies Somewhere on my old desk, amid the weathered copys of Maximum PC magazine, are moldering stacks of old floppies from my early digital camera days, my Mavica simply collects dust and supports a pyramid of unpaid collection notices. On each one is the dossier of girlfriends that in drunken bliss exposed their voluptuous bodies for the "remember when your lonely" photo albums that I never made. The poetry I will never read again and understand because I composed it when I was drunk. And the college assignments that I downloaded from my friends, and printed in desperation before the mid term. All neglected... And yet all with sentimental value, like the pressed leaves and flowers in a book of poetry. The scrawled and illegible notes in number two pencil, fade away... And when I gather the desire, I will place each carefully in an old shoebox and push them further and further back into the old musty closet full of my uniforms and shoes that I will never wear.... And pull the cord on the old lightbulb... and close another chapter on my life....
Re: the old stack of floppies He make dem words purdy Seriously, thats one of the most incredible things I've read, I could really envision the scene and what you were feeling.
