Few weeks after I installed a fresh OS,
Hahahahaha! Web tab addiction. Do you even use all of those, you remind me of those people that have a backlog of over 1000 games, worse still are those that have tonnes of hard disks with half their game library installed.
I had 1000 games backlog 10 years ago...
You know what I would like to have, a search function for open tabs.
You sir, are a great great man.
I would argue with you if I could.
I think the most tabs I've had open at one time is like 3 or 4....
I think maybe the most I've ever had open is maybe 20 or 30.
looking at porn, right?
Probably around 20.
Just to clarify, this is not the most tabs I have ever had open at one time. I have in the past gone over 1000.
But I was/am trying to have only 4-5 open at most ever since I freshly installed Windows on this PC.
Kind of failed so far.
Yeah 4-5=456 is not quite correct math.
If there are indeed infinite number of parallel universes, then I am sure there is one where 4-5=456. Unfortunately for my case, this is not it.
@Trusteft you need an intervention.
Personally, I don't like browser tabs. I'll close what I'm looking at unless I'm working on something where I have to switch back and forth to complete what I'm doing.
I'm a tab hoarder, as it's well known. I have HH open. I might not look at it for the next several hours, but I will look at it again at some point today. Also, I might find something that's relevant to a thread I've looked at (be it Randomness, You Laugh, Pandemic...), and having the tab already open is neater than having to navigate through the forum. It also helps if I've seen something good on a site I don't visit often. If I wish to take a look at it again later and I've closed it, usually it's not too difficult to google it again or dig it out of history, but in a surprising number of cases it does take me a while to dig something up again.
You do understand that is what Favorites/Bookmarks are for, especially since you can rename the link to whatever you want and not try to remember what the page is called or what the link looked like...
I use tabs, but in a useful way. If I am on one page and it has a link to something I want to look at later, I press the mouse wheel and pop it into a new tab (without switching to the new tab). I also start my browser with 4 "Home Pages"... stuff I usually end up looking at nearly every time I go on the web.
Don't get me wrong, I love tabs and sometimes have dozens open... but they all get closed at some point or another, whether I do it after looking at it or the browser, which is set to close all tabs when it is closed. And anything that needs to be followed or viewed later gets added to Favorites/Bookmarks (I do hoard those!)
Tabs used like some of you above is just a messy clutter... There are plainly easier ways to do the things you want that don't take up mountains of RAM and useful toolbar real estate.
Yeah, normal browsing I tend to have 4 or 5 tabs open, anything I want to look at later, bookmarks.
@QB71 Yeah, I agree with the point you're making. I don't use it for "long term" storage, just for the day. If I think I'll be revisiting it over a longer period, I do use bookmarks.
