Ah I thought this was regarding the vapor-x style heatsink, looks like its something else entirely.

Abstract patents should be barred from ever being patented, they are far to general. I only see electrical SM parts, and some regulator parts sold. I wonder what they're trying to gain..

Well, the entire lineup ATi/AMD has since the 2900XT series is in peril. Most patents are like that.

Apple has most of the hilarious ones.

As Microsoft is now suffering for using xml to do some conversions in Office (and think of all the software that uses xml in the same manner :) ), so should AMD pay to use technology that was not theirs in the first place. AMD has made a lot of noise about their digital pwm power circuitry. The noise is coming back to bite them...

It's the law, you have to make sure you're not stepping in the wrong direction. The use of a technology without having a license is illegal.

That does not mean that all patents are justified with their implementations.

Why doesn't AMD and it's bretherin just tell Richtek to shove off and implement their own design in space of their counterparts?
