Not sure if correct thread, but this is a continuation of "mysterious computer shutdown" (My computer randomly shuts down without any apparent reason that seems neither software or hardware).

I've reinstalled windows xp but my computer still persists in automatically shutting down. I looked at a black screen with white text at the beginning of a restart and I believe I found the problem, that its neither those two but rather its a setting of master and slave devices. The problem now is that I dont know whats what.

Primary Master- Working (found, or forgot what it said)
    Primary slave- none
    Secondary master-none
    Secondary slave-none

In settings everything has been set to "auto", but the options are I can set it to-

    None
    Auto
    User Type HDD
    CD-Rom
    LS-120
    ZIP
    MO
    Other ATAPI Devices

How do you have the jumpers set on the drives?

You would have to actually crack open your case then look at the back of the drives.

BTW, how much computer knowledge do you have?

I can do almost anything on windows, but hardware I have no clue bout anything. I can look at the back of the driver, but as I said, complete noob so I practically need things spelled out like...Whats a jumper. I'll try calling my friend and asking, but he's the one that messed up my comp in the first place. He knows whats what in his head but he also tends to be an idiot...like he comes over when i ask him to fix something but he moves my drivers around without asking and unhooks my dvd player...:uhoh:
