Something VERY wierd happened today. Today (9/5/04) i turned on my computer at about 3pm, Windows loaded up fine, i felt like some Halo PC so i loaded the CDrom into my drive and started playing. About 5 minutes into the game I started to smell a burning smell. I got out of my seat and looked around.

About 5 seconds after i got up, a big puff of smoke came out of my Samsung monitor and the picture on my computer went blue then shut off. I immediately turned off the computer and unplugged the monitor. I felt the top and the monitor and to my suprise it was rather cool. Around 80 degrees.

I called Samsung and got through pretty quick. I told them what happened and I asked the guy if he has ever heard of this before, he said "no, I haven't." After giving him some information, they had a new monitor on its way to my house (very pleased with their customer service).

I just wanna know what the hell happened. The day was hot, around 85 degrees, but i really dont think that caused this. I heard a rumor a while ago about ATi drivers blowing monitors, could that of been it. Im currently using Omega's 4.8 set.

My monitor can be seen here:

this were just a rumor, this were discused a while ago to with ati and there were no evidence to support this rumor,at the end drivers are just a code thats been programed.and if this were true would there not of been an increase of monitors being mentioned that have blown up or simply died.

can't say what problem caused this, probably rule out a power surge, unless you don't use a power surge adaptor or plug.

but whatever caused it,at least youre geting good service from samsung.

remember.... you may have been protected by "surge" but brown outs will kill components quicker! and will get them just as hot if not hotter

excellent news that the costumer service is on the case ASAP...

and sorry about the monitor..... i'm just glad i haven't had any issues with any monitor i've gotten

Yah, the guy was pretty worried when i told him what happened. I can see why, the power they store can easily kill you (same with a power supply).
