Maserati fans will soon be able to marvel at the redesigned 2013 Quattroporte, which will make its world debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit this January.

"At 5.1 metres, the latter (the Quattroporte) is bigger than its predecessor (5.05 m) yet still offers seating for four."

Implying that increasing car length reduced the chance of it being able to offer seating for four?

Anyway, spoiler: It'll be powered by a 4.2 V8 and, while looking and sounding good, will be underwhelming vs. its rivals (Porsche Panamera, Merc S63, Jag XJR) in every other regard.

I never saw Maserati as a "sports car". If anything, I see them as a luxury sport car with more emphasis on luxury. The extra length would more than likely make it much more comfortable car to ride in, particularly for the rear passengers.

Don't worry CDs, they do long wheelbase variants of both the XJR and the Mercedes S-class :p
