So my sons arrived this morning and I have to say its pretty sweet, only setup niggle was the need to use a mobile app on the phone but only took 5 minutes and he is currently playing Valhalla, loading of the game is scarily fast and it looks stunning

Transfer from old console to new was simple and it is soooo quiet the new controller is smaller in my hands and feels very nice as well

only had a little play bit have to admit (as a Sony Fan) its impressive ..nice job Microsoft

WAIT, why do you need to use a phone?

I dunno when you turn the Xbox on it didnt do anything other than show a Logo, read a pamphlet and it said to sign into the Xbox app on your phone and choose setup system

did that and was given a code on the TV screen that we had to enter into the phone to continue setup ... never seen anything like it but it was very efficient

If this is accurate and there is no other way to proceed, that's one fantastic reason to never get another Xbox.

    Cool beans!

BTW, I'm hearing (mostly) good things about Valhalla. I'm not sure whether AC is really my cup of tea anymore, but I'm getting tempted.

EDIT: I've recently dealt with a WiFi extender that required me do download their app and register as part of the initial setup process.

there's a lot of things specially on smart tvs in which they want you to download the app... But nearly every single one of them gives a website address to punch in as an alternative which then allows you to verify and sign in.

For example youtube or google movies on a smart tv requires this... use the app OR usually in smaller letters and greyed out somewhat, the address which you can use your computer to do so.

I thought the same but didnt find one on the pamphlet but TBH we didn't get much further than "download the app", if there is an alternative they are not really pushing it much

EDIT> Just checked the setup card for another look and there does not seem to be any alternative to the phone ...

    Scan.jpg

Flip the card over and its just alternate language of the front .. there is also a terms and conditions pamphlet but what you see above is basically it

Thanks for the heads up @Mr Cairo.

And M$ does it again, lol, I'm sure some people might have trouble with this, for example people who put air time/units on their phone.

    Absolutely disgusting.
    Thank you for the update.
Now there is ZERO chance of getting an Xbox no matter what they do with it.

Dont get me wrong guys i could be missing something thats staring me in the face but my son and I have both looked .. possibly there is something on the box but TBH most people like myself will just see that card and look no further ... I will also say again it was incredibly easy to do

Theres a vid here the guy says you dont need to use a phone but does not offer an alternative

If it really came to that, I'm fairly positive you'd be able to do it via Bluestacks.

I was curious, so I googled. Depending how I phrase the search, no 1 or no 2 hit on google is an article on Windows Central describing the set-up process and it has sections for both the app and the on device process. So no app required after all. :)

EDIT: But the official instructions on xbox.xom don't seem to mention this.

This, this is what is pissing me off. Hiding options and EASY setup process just to push to get their app on your phone.
    I want to puke.

I have it for XBOX and am quite happy with it. I'm going slow and leveling up my character before heading into unfamiliar territories.

The new PS5 has been having a lot of issues lately with it's launch, my little sister and her husband chose to not buy one right away after hearing about all the problems, and instead wait for Sony to iron out all the problems. If Sony isn't careful the Xbox will steal their thunder.

no they won't.... both products often get biased against coverage.. there's already a few xbox series models that have been pinned for problems.. bricking ect. basically same ol same ol... every time a new console is released, the headlines grabbed are about the ones that fail.. which is not at all reflective of the overall.
