Heh. Probably just a shimless high quality cooler and higher default clocks. Good kit for those that don't want to mod their card themselves but I'm guessing its nothing beyond that, or else they'd call it a 9900...

From what I've seen a few people post. Its going to be another of them deals where they say....
"If you already have a 9800 Pro, its not worth it. But if you have a 9700 and lower than it's worth the upgrade"

So I dunno! I have a 9700 Pro, I've been wanting a 9800 Pro. Just cant afford one right now :(
But with this coming out soon and the 9800 Pro's price's are already coming down.
Maybe I can get one :) I'd love to have this XT but :sigh: It's going to be high $400 to $500 I'm sure.
I would have to sell my wife or something

Yes, they did away with the shim in the 9800P series--mine is the stock, non-shim cooler included on the 9800P I bought in May. The shim seems to only have affected the 9700P's heatsink.

Too bad it's on a Via 64 board..... Those barely put out half as much bandwidth as the nForce3 does

My 9800Pro has a shim. the ATi cooler has an extruded part on the bottom which fits the core. But it definately has a shim.

Yes, but since the heat sink doesn't make contact with the shim (mine doesn't) it hardly matters, does it?...:) In the 9700P (which I also had) the heatsink made contact with the shim and a thermal pad connected to the sink to the vpu. If the shim doesn't separate the heatsink from the vpu, it doesn't matter if it's there or not, from the standpoint of cooling. Looking at my card edgewise, I can see the sink making direct contact with the vpu--and even see the grease in between. This is why some people have noticed the 9800P stock heatsink as being "wobbly"--because it doesn't rest on the shim as in the 9700P. I agree that this picture would indicate the shim is gone, but don't see how it would make a difference in cooling. I've run my 9800P core at 452.x MHz with the stock cooler without problems.

That is a sexy looking card. Wonder how much it's gonna run and what the performance differences will be. I've already got my 9800 Non Pro running at 418/355. I don't think there's gonna be much of a point for the 9800np/Pro owners. Of course for the FX owners out there....:D

Actually its the nForce 3 Boardsthat pput out less bandwidth then the Via boards the K8T800 are the board to get you can check out a fairly good review of it here http://www.techreport.com/reviews/2003q3/athlon64/index.x?pg=1, in some tests a 3200+ Athlon 64 with a Via Chipset beats the nForce3 with a Athlon 64 FX 51, even with the dual channel memory. THe ultimate though is a K8T800 and an Athlon 64 FX.

Just thought I would clear that up
