I didn't actually know APPLE had that kind of cash on hand, thats insane. I know their 60 day stock purchase of all ATI's 4850 video cards would have cost a fair bit mind you.
To be perfectly honest, If Nokia does win this one against Apple then it wouldn't surprise me if the iPhone is taken off the market. Either that or Apple takes a nasty kick in the wallet and buys some rights to use Nokia's patents.
The iphone wont go off the market. thats a ridiculous assumption. What Nokia are suing for is actually a breach of a patent inside the iphone, its nothing that actually is massively important to the production of the phone. Nokia would much rather get a financial payment for this, and Apple can clearly already afford it. These matters take time as Apple will battle any costs to get them as low as possible. Just how business operates. Nokia are taking on a giant here, it won't be easy. Microsoft have had many strong cases against them and in the end they just pay off the other parties, im sure the same will happen here.
lol... 30 Billion isn't enough Nokias net worth is far greater than that.... And Nokia too has deep pockets of money [EDIT] it has been estimated that Nokia have put over 40 Billion euros to the research and development of the patents that they claim that Apple is violating... And there is large amount of other companies that are paying license fees to Nokia. This will make the case stronger for Nokia. Remember the battle with Qualcomm ... They might sue Apple too ... And Ericson ...

This Apple and Nokia thread is turning into iphone owners v Nokia phone owners. I own a phone, but I gotta say I don't give a crap about the company who own it, unless they start paying my car finance payments and my mortgage.

I have a dual CPU Nehalem EP PC system here I built which is probably worth about $10k - id reckon many people would class that as overpriced too. Its all relative to what you want at the end of the day, right? I call it the 'Z Principle' = income+desire+endproduct = happiness. I will try and continue to educate fanatics though, both on Mac forums and on PC centric forums. Sure, its pointless, but its fun.
yeah thats 40 billion over 20 years. perfectly feasible research/costs. Microsoft for instance spent 7.4 billion just on research in 2007 alone !
