Resolved Issues for the Windows XP Operating System

This section provides information on resolved issues in this release of the ATI Catalyst™ Software Suite for Windows XP. These include:
    • Doom3: Running an OpenGL application with CrossFire™ enabled and AA set to 16x no longer results in corruption being noticed when the display resolution is set to 2048x1536 or higher. Further details can be found in topic number 737-32150
    • TianXia2: Launching the game no longer results in the Windows XP operating system rebooting. Further details can be found in topic number 737-32152
    • Playing an H.264/VC1 title on a system with a display resolution higher than 1440x900 no longer results in the content failing to play in hardware mode. Further details can be found in topic number 737-32154
    • Changing the display resolution when CrossFire™ is enabled no longer results in the running 3D application failing to respond. Further details can be found in topic number 737-32155
Known Issues Under the Windows XP Operating System

The following section provides a summary of open issues in the latest version of Catalyst™. These include:
    • After installing the graphics driver an error message may be displayed when attempting to launch DirectX based games when using an ATI AGP product. Further details can be found in topic number 737-31625
[*]Call of Juarez: Setting the game level with Optimal Quality and high in-game settings may result in the game level being blank. Further details can be found in topic number 737-30591
[*]Enemy Territory: Quake Wars may have corruption on the water and sky after increasing the game resolution. Restarting the game at that higher resolution or issuing reloadImages command in the game console corrects the corruption. This issue only impacts graphics cards up to the ATI Radeon™ X850. Further details can be found in topic number 737-29947
[*]Lost Planet: Setting AA to either 4x or 8x may intermittently result in the game failing to respond. Further details can be found in topic number 737-28492
[*]STALKER: Shadows may not be rendered properly when CrossFire™ is enabled along with AA being enabled at 4x and Full Dynamic Lighting also being enabled. Further details can be found in topic number 737-31597
[*]Connecting a CRT display device as the secondary display and playing a Blu-ray DVD using a Cyberlink player may result in no video playback if extended desktop mode is enabled. Further details can be found in topic number 737-30587
[*]Connecting a Dual Link Panel to the on-board DVI port, followed by hot plugging a DVI display to the add-on DVI card may result in clone mode becoming disabled when rebooting the machine and the secondary display device remaining blank. Further details can be found in topic number 737-31166
[*]The Catalyst Control Center menu option may fail to function when changing the skin from system skin to any other available skin. Further details can be found in topic number 737-30570
[*]Setting the display resolution to 1440x900 or lower may result in corruption being noticed when playing a DVD title. Further details can be found in topic number 737-31168
[*]Setting the desktop resolution to 1280x1024 and using PowerDVD to play an HD-DVD or Blu-ray title may result in corruption being noticed when using an ATI Radeon™ HD 2400 series of product. Further details can be found in topic number 737-31171
[*]On certain products, changing display resolution while playing back High Definition content may results in instability. It is recommended to set appropriate resolution while playback is stopped. Further details can be found in topic number 737-31172
[*]Cyberlink: Playing a DVD title on a system containing an ATI Radeon™ HD 2400 series may result in corruption being noticed. Further details can be found in topic number 737-31173

Well I played COD4 for a couple hours and I don't need fraps running to know that these drivers do get a little jerky in spots, and I was liquid before.

The new 8.2 driver wont install on my Sapphire HD 2600 PRO AGP
So much for all being fixed for AGP in the next release *sighs* Still using the hotfix on a current card that was bought less than 6 months ago this is beyond a joke now and totally unacceptable
We can only hope that Omegadrive releases a 8.2 version
I read that some AGP cards will accept this driver but like i say my Sapphire wont please let me know if any of you guys have same problems
Typical i think i will give up hoping for things to be fixed if by the 8.3 things are still the same

For that card that you have I would say no need to install CAT 8.2

Installed over 8.1 and setup complains the already installed CCC is newer than what it wants to install?

Why the heck is 8.2 installing an older CCC?

FYI to ATI. The 8.2s are the first to work on my NF2 board since the 7.6s. All Direct X tests passed. Just to let you know ATI, this did cost you as my NF2 is not my gaming rig anymore. I didn't purchase anything ATI for my new gaming rig.:)

    I'm getting a feeling that:

7.11 is the best openGL driver out of recent efforts, while the hotfix AGP driver is the only good AGP driver since the AGP troubles started.

Was really hoping for a "last update" for my X700 - maybe 7.11 is it, as the games I've collected seem to be biased towards OpenGL. Still holding at 7.3 for now, first release where CCC was really smooth and well .net 2.0 tuned.

In XP you must uninstall 8.1 CCC before installing 8.2. It seems that the 8.1 version of CCC actually is not identifying itself properly so 8.2 CCC thinks 8.1 is newer.

Can s.o. confirm problem with following demo:
tum.3D - Computer Graphics and Visualization

I get a second chance exception at address 0x20d32a5 with CAT7.12 or newer
Copy atioglxx.dll 7.11 or older into app folder to run "bunny demo v1.35"
Copy atioglxx.dll 6.05 or older into app folder to run "bunny demo v1.03"

8.1's were very good with COD4, but the 8.2's get awful jerky in spots. And they really screwed up HDR on some of the maps leaving the outdoor evironments over exposed.

    * Start of Rant* Well I see no improvement all are alike since 7.1 up to now 8.2 ATI has IMO went down the drain and I am sorry to say I cannot stomach anymore of there screw up's.
I think I am going to buy a nVidia video card as they seem to work with all the games I play and they do support AGP unlike ATI/AMD. If they could just make a driver so that I could play the Total War Series without rebooting my system once it tries to enter the map or BSOD that would be great. I tried to install the 6.11 but it says it is not compatible with my OS. Which is very weird since I used that for my x1600pro and it worked better then this newer up to date HD2600pro.
Why make or allow AGP cards to be made if they are not going to support them? When is ATI going to put a good driver out for AGP and XP OS? I am very disgusted with this company. This is why I left nVidia several years ago because of driver problems now ATI is worse then nVidia has ever been IMO. * End of Rant *

If you don’t get anything out of this the point is 8.2 stinks just like the last 10 drivers they have put out.

I tried yet more OpenGL stuff:
"The Valley 1.1" from speedtree.com - borked textures
    ATI SDK demos:
    HDR GL - very dark
    Mandelbrot GL - invisible
    Ray-Tracing GL - GL_ATI_shader_texture_lod is not supported

As aforementioned, put a copy of atioglxx.dll from CAT7.11 into application folder to fix issue.

Guys would you say the 7.11 drivers are so far the best for my Sapphire HD 2600 PRO AGP ?
I am on the hotfix drivers now and for most games its been ok but i play Second Life a lot and have lots of graphic problems maybe i need to try 7.11 and just give up hope for anything better I for sure regret buying this card
