when i get a website?
need to figure out my server to host myself....
ok figure you buy a $600 video card , 6 mouths when another refesh show
up just short of or at release later its worth say $400. Ok now you sell that
card for 400 and 200 and walla you on the top end again.
Or you as a very ruff scale, wait a year the card worths maybe $250-$300,
wait two years $100-250 to wait 3 years
Figure that ok not only are you missing out on the "latest and greatest"
your useing older hardware, mabye not playing what you want how you
want or as well as you'd like... missing out on new features, watching you
preformance drop as focus of driver go to the newer hardware... etc...
So I spend mabye $200 - 400 a year and have the "latest and greatest"
alot of people wait a year or two then cray when they see that $600 price
tag... it alot easier to swallow $200 then it does $600 stright.... Seems
cheaper to me thug you might spend a bit more in the long run but you
geting 110% of what you pay for vs missing out....
Its make it easier and more affordable to "stay on top" . Not only do you
get that but reveres what I said befre the drivers are being tuned and are
fucus twards you hardware. You can run the lestest and greatest the way
you want. to enjoy the new features etc.... rember you could die to marrow
so try to enjpy each day as much as you can.... you don't do that with things
you not happy with...
Well maybe to you it's easier and more affordable to stay on top, but to me it's a waste of money considering how quickly ATI and NVIDIA are kicking out cards. I don't need to game at 2048 x 1536 with all the bells and whistles turned all the way up. Nor do I need the latest and greatest vid cards for bragging rights or to stroke my ego.
As far as enjoying each day as much as I can, I'm way ahead of you, bro. It's called being content with the little that I have. I don't need the fastest/greatest technology to make my day an enjoyable one
Yeah it is NEVER cheaper to get the latest and greatest, no matter what you sell.. It may be cheaper to upgrade when you sell a card that still hasn't dropped 1/2 it's value, bt still, it would be cheaper to just wait longer to upgrade. I can understand wanting the latest and greatest when it comes out, but it just does not make any sense to me. To me it makes sense to wait until hardware is a little older and much less expensive, and still powerful enough to get enjoyment out of it.
I just got my tax returns back, and I *could* probably go out and buy a PCIe/ x1900/ AMD64 x2/ 2gig fast mem system.. But in 9 months the parts will have lost way too much value to make it worth while to me. I'll just wait until buying the parts for that system aren't so damn expensive when the faster stuff comes out. (although it is a little painful having a slower system on the tail end of an upgrade cycle).. it is getting very close to the time to upgrade.
IMO it isn't about ego or e-penis sidrum....
For those that NEED to stay ontop of it all it's cheaper to keep selling off the old before the new arrives or when it arrives... Even when the product has been announced ... it doesn't mean it's available...
And it's not evil at all to do business like that.....
IMO waiting 3 years for a machine that you bought for say 1500 bucks drop to a value of 500 or less vs buying a machine worth the same ammount, selling it off for say 1250 bucks and buying another 1500 dollar machine is a hell of alot cheap and more productive then waiting.... you get decent return on your previous... to fund your next...... + a little extra to keep ahead...
It's like riding a surfboard..... long as you stay up and ahead, it's fairly fun and productive and cheap.... soon as you fall off, it's my guad hard to get back up....
Well I just found out I can do some upgrading...
Problem is I might only have about 700 bucks or so.. maybe more.
I need a CPU/Mobo/gfx card. I want 2Gigs of ram....
I can harvest 512mb ram- 1x 512MB OCZ Platinum Enhanced Latency PC-3200 2-3-2-5
(maybe buy 1 gig OCZ stick for 1.5 gigs at first)
the X800XL AGP- old NF7- 2.2ghz Tbred/ 2x 256-OCZ Platinum Enhanced latency Limited Edition PC-3200 2-2-2-5 BH6 memory won't do me any good I don't think.. Unless the mobo has 4 slots and all the ram plays nice.. Would rather get 2x 1GB sticks though.
I'm thinking about getting an Opteron.. http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/opteron-165.html
mobo... no idea. I am sure there are many 939's to choose from, I want one that will OC.
I have a lot of homework to do.. not sure what to do at this point... need to go hunt down some benchmarks.. go find some deals.. It's about damn time though. I haven't even played trough FEAR because I want to wait until I can run it half way decently.. My race sims eat systems alive too- rFactor needs a killer rig to crank the settings up while showing a large number of cars. My PSU will be fine with an adapter- 550 Antec watts will do just fine.
Opteron 165's, as you mentioned, overclock beatifully. So do the Opteron 170's, so I hear, and plus, that has a higher multiplier, too.
If you want to go Dual Core, Opteron Dual Cores are the way to go. They're generally of a higher quality than the X2's since they're meant to be server CPU's. That's why they overclock better.
I would kill to have one of those. However, since AM2 is expected to come out in June with a whole new line of dual core CPU's and such, it's probably not worth gettng anything new just yet...
I plan on ordering up 2 opteron 2xx's and a motherboard to suit it..... major server upgrade
judas...............will you adopt me?
i <3 my opteron and it's only a 148 =)
and bwx,x800xl agp is still a good card.....slap and ati silencer on it and OC the hell outa it.....thats what i did =) bf2 1280x1024 2xaa all highs never ran so great
and judas....get me one of those discounts:taste:
whoa whoa whoa...
nows it's just getting weird
Judas I saw you mention you need a Crossfire motherboard. I have the MSI RD480 but have not got around to setting it up yet. The price was decent just about the same as the Asus one.
let me know how it goes.....
I am waiting on an AIWX1800XL to arrive before i bother, should ne next week sometime I hope
I already do OC it.. (425/545) ..the problem is that it is AGP.
No sense upgrading AGP, so need to buy PCIe, therefore, it has to go.. I want something faster anyway. I think I'll start a thread, I really need some advice about the mobo, etc.. building around an Opteron 165 dual core.
Go with a DFI Lanparty SLI board BWX... Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe is similarily good.... but Asus boards always have problems... at least so I've learned in my past experiences.
Only downside on the DFI board is the northbridge HSF -- its terrible, could use a change if your going to be overclocking... otherwise its the top OC'ing board for AMD64's/Opterons
Dude, what's your address? I promise I won't sneak in at night with all-black clothes to try to steal your hardware. lol
Started a new thread about my upgrade..
be prepared to get caught...
I've several Night Vision high resolution cameras setup, in a small building with pretty much one large room, doesn't matter what direction your coming from, your caught....
