The upload is somewhat underrated, I getting about 425 - 430kBy/sec witch is notably higher that the SpeedTest is showing.

 

We have really slow internet - but this is through my wifi router.

 

I m afraid mine can only be measured with a calender

Just finished activating a new modem from Comcast...




And, one after getting our own WiFi router and network configured...

Still slower than just about anybody but faster than before. I'm way the heck out in the middle of the woods too.

Gotta bury the line myself, we worked out a deal. No charge if I bury the line.

 

Just how far does the line run?

Where I am, the line is run from the poles at the street to the eaves on the house. Then it is attached and run down a corner then under the house to where we have it come through the floor.

 

I only have to bury about 20 feet of wire... It was probably cut when they filled in the old well pit just outside the garage. The amount of wire from the hook up pedestal to the house is maybe a 1/4 mile +/-. (the length of my driveway plus under the road to the other side) I have no idea how far it is to the nearest switch/server. All our telephone lines are underground here, they have been for years, surprised yours are still overhead.

I was amazed that the phone company even offered DSL out this far. I was expecting to have to go with Dish Network.

 

The debate resurfaces every few years here re: Overhead vs. Buried. It especially gets repeated after some serious storms that take out the lines and leave people without power and other utilities for several days.

But, the cost analysis always presents a very dire picture of what it would cost...at this point in time...of putting things underground. It just isn't going to happen, I guess.

 

I've established that the longer it runs, the higher the result (within peak speed, of course). Can't extend the time though.


Ping varies between 2ms to 8ms.

 

Updated my cable DOCSIS 3.0 connection to 100/20, runs alright

Updated my router firmware today, had to check how my speeds were after, still loving it



Impressive what they can push through cobber these days,

 

we cannot touch anything like that here in Ohio without paying a huge price...Being in the EU has its benefits
