    HI

Have given an "Old" computer to my girlfriends son that has an MSI 9800 Pro installed.

    (XP sp2, 2.8P4, 1 gig RDRAM, 9800 Pro)

Question is about drivers. I know "the best" is a somwhat pointless debate, but anyone have strong feelings about a driver series that would be "best" for this card.
As I recall when I was using it, that the Omega 4.11/ 12 were real good.

    Any suggestions would be appreciiated

My advice: latest drivers. I test more or less every set and 6.2 and 6.3 are the fastest ones for me. I also recently used an older driver for a few days, and difference in DX games wasn't too big (new drivers seem to be about 2-3% faster), but OpenGL games work much better with latest sets then with that older set (it was a very old set, about a year or so old). Also latest drivers have optimizations and fixes for latest games.

I've tried newer drivers and I always go back to omega 4.12. Stable as can be and for me they run the fastest and have radlinker integrated right in. I've seen nothing in newer driver sets (for the 9800) to make me switch.

I do believe that the Omega drivers are faster then the Official ones but it may have been something else that was slowing me down/fastening me up (so to speak) during the few hours i was using a different driver. :)

I've tried with some games that have them, for instance kotor and kotor 2 (the whole dantooine issue) and there really wasn't much difference; it runs fine with 4.12 now. Other than that, i don't play any of the other games that have had fixes applied. The next time i switch drivers will likely be when there are oblivion optimizations or a fix of the shadow issue.

With every PC I build/give to someone else I install the most recent official drivers (in this case the newest cats).

You never know what he will need to have done to/with the computer and official drivers are the safe way to go.
