1. I made myself a full installation with everything in it except for the ATi + monitor-drivers! 2. Made an image of it with "Ghost 8.2" (DOS)! 3. I install the latest Omega-driver (or any other original or modded ATi driver for testin') and make a 2nd image of that one! 4. Every weekend I update everything in my 1st image and do step 3 again! Conclusion: I can install every type of the latest ATi drivers within a few minutes, without issues and without the hassle of reinstalling everything (when it goes wrong just re-image da partition)! (except for a major hardware change offcourse!) C U L8R!!!
Since Omega switched to ATI Tray Tools, I have been having overheating problems with these drivers. When playing Morrowind, outdoor areas would become badly distorted after 15-30 minutes of play. In Guildwars, the game just 'locks up' after 20-30 minutes. In the latter, I have turned all detail levels down to their lowest level, but to no avail. In both cases, I have to restart the computer. I tried loading the ATI Tray Tools, which came with this latest driver set (to check the overclocking settings), but I get the following error message: Access violation at address 0041C142 in module 'atitray.exe'. Read of address BBE1AC08. I am currently using an AlW Radeon 9700pro, under WIndows XP. 11:05pm EDT on 9/20/05: Was able to remove the error message by unistalling ATI Tray Tools (an older version was not overwritten, for some reason). ATI Tray Tools runs correctly, and is the version which came with this Omega driver pack. I do not have time to check the lockup problem, at this time.
