I don't like IE since IE8 came around. The interface has been inconvenient since then and has become worse ever since. IE7's interface was far superior compared to all versions of IE since then.

Deciding on how I want to approach taking my master's program. Take a leave from higher education to take certification courses for Cisco CCNA, CCNP, and Microsoft MCSE, MCITP etc. and then go back for my masters. Or should I take my masters starting this fall and once I've completed that, take those certifications?

    hmmm

Do your master's first. My little brother is going a bit overkill with his master's. He's going to do his master's once he finishes his bachelor's in Pharmacy now in Ireland and then he'll be going to Japan to take another master's.

One argument I have for myself for doing my masters first is that it'll be cheaper to do it now rather than later as tuition costs will only go up.

The second argument I have is that a master's degree doesn't have to be renewed every few years as opposed to certifications.

It's the only way hiring people of the corporate world will know that current or potential employees are competent in what they do.

Just part of the corporate culture. Not quite the same as a small company or business.

    no that's a joke..

In the corporate world nowadays most of the people with certifications can't apply what they were supposed to learn, corporations continue to increase certificaiton requirements in order to try and weed out people that can't apply it. At this point in time it's completely ass backwards by hiring plenty of people that can't do the job but were able to manage to either pay for certifications or "get" them through grey to black area means.

This has been an ongoing and continued irritation of a TON of businesses that know what they are doing and can't hire based on how many or what certifications someone might have anymore for years now.

While the computer related industry is largely suffering from this only recently, Heavy Duty Mechanics and various engineers and so forth have been experiencing this issue quite readily for numerous years.

They can now get as good if not better work habits out of totally green no certification at all people. The only problem is corporations can and do take advantage of these people by making the claim that since they have no certification even though they are doing a BADASS job that would put a certified person to shame, they don't have to pay them as much as an actual certified person.

The good guy corporations however will put someone through numerous working situations, determine who is a natural talent at it or seems to understand it all, then offer to pay for their certifications. Those are super rare though.

Secondary education is a massive industry.... it's mostly not really needed, specially when the first year or a good chunk of it is stuff that should have been learnt in highschool or shit even midschool. But the tuition just keeps going up and the bucks keeps flying into the wrong peoples pockets resulting in near popetual debt and for what? Even the people that do manage to get certificaitons and diplomas and crap, quite often find themselves unable to get a job in those areas still.

    renewal is not an issue.
getting them in the first place is and with them you can get your foot in the door of almost any potential employer
sometimes writing your own ticket for pay rate.
certs are now and not a pain staking still in class forever way like a Master's.
hell I got a BS (Bach.. of Science) and I do not even use it, I get in because of my certs.
usually the employer will pay for updates in certifications anyways.. ;)

It is always good renew certificates and try to improve the knowledge you already have. How an employer is going to hire a professional if he doesn't have any clue of what this person can do? Certificates are a good way to prove it. I never knew any case of an employer hire someone just because the person said that could do such task.

Already got my foot in the door with my new job :). I work for a Comcast subsidiary and due to this, I am able to move up within the company I work at, move to a client company my company services, or even move up within Comcast itself.

    :D

My Master's program * should * take about 18 months to complete. 24 months tops though.
