no one has the capacity to read anything more than a sentence or too long... regression seems to be the way things are going even on forums.

You were going on and on, speaking to someone that KNOWS fire abatement in an area that is now burning, which is why the topic came up... I lived there, man.

I rode a bicycle for the first time in 25 years today (after my bike got stolen when I was a kid). My girlfriend put me up to it. She also had the patience to take me to a parking lot and teach me how to ride before going on the track, because I literally couldn't stay on it for three seconds at first (so, call the Mythbusters, you can forget how to ride a bicycle). Then, once I started to get the hang of it, she rode along slowly beside me and "coached" me (I was probably hilarious to look at at the beginning and a bunch of people passing by thought that I had a great time and a bit too much to drink before getting on the bike).

Finally, we ended up going a circle around a lake, some 7-8km. I couldn't be happier and I'm really grateful to her for helping me (re)acquire a basic life skill that I've pretty much given up on. :) She, on the other hand, is all bummed because I fell once while trying to avoid an oncoming cyclist.

I did make that fall count, though, I scraped both knees, both hands, an elbow and a shoulder. :D Nothing serious, though, I really didn't hit hard. :)

Yeah... Falling off a bike doesn't count unless it's a full on faceplant at 35mph

    I concur
I have a deep, permanent scar bang in the middle of my forehead from falling off my bike when I was 4yo
actually I've got a bunch of scars from falling off my bike when I was a kid.
I entirely blame my dad. we lived on a long, steep hill, and he only went & bought me a speedo for the damn thing...
I mean what the hell did he think was gonna happen :D

I have bumped into a wall before on a bike when I was learning to ride as a kid.

Otherwise I still remember how to ride even now. :)

Rodents tore the @(!&%#$ out of my engine compartment... I had a doctor's appointment this morning, got in the car, turned the key and nothing but flashing lights on the dash. Yeah, Dr is going to charge me for the missed appointment too.

Darn! I don't remember hearing that somebody was charged for a missed appointment, maybe things are different over there. I hope that you are feeling okay or that you'll get well soon.

Here everything is free, that doesn't mean you can miss too many appointments without losing your doctor.

Yes, if we don't give at least 24 hours notice that we can't make an appointment, we get charged for missing one. It runs anywhere from $25 to $45 in the area where I am and depending on what type of appointment it was for.

Sounds like the corrupt banking systems that employs the "oh... it appears that we charged you a service charge that really we shouldn't... and it overdrew your account, which shouldn't have happened, which resulted in an additional charge for not having money, which you did, which means that we've now gone into an overdraft state which most definitely shouldn't have happened, which then has triggered an additional service feed for exceeding the minimum overdraft allotment for this account type which is just fucking retarded, which has lead to being penalized for this action that you had no control over in the first place, resulting in essentially us stealing a full $100+ dollars.... OH and one more thing, all of these things have compounding interest, and we aren't going to tell you about it until after the initial month has gone through.... Thanks!"

ah that sucks ty, sorry for you.
charging for missed appointments is a subject that regularly gets mooted here as well.
I've got to say, whilst I hold the whole free health care thing dear, knowing the utterly ridiculous amount it costs the NHS I'm not exactly against the idea..
