I'm going to give this a 1 - and probably always will ATI should focus on the driver and let the distro's manage the installation imho
I agree, I have no problems installing the driver in distros that properly support it. I still cant run dga things and things like gta3 and other d3d apps fail to work.. Seems like an attempt help debian users that can't realize that debian lacks xorg and proper support for the driver at the time.
What do you mean by that? What advantages does xorg have on xfree? Sorry if this is a bit out of context.
I'm giving it 1 as well. It's 35MB, which is a way too much for JUST AN INSTALLER. It requires too much user intervention. ATI should consider doing things the way MEPIS does; there is just one checkbox "use fglxr driver", maybe couple more options. This certainly isn't the way to go IMHO.
I'm giving it a 5 myself and I've been testing longer than most people. But let's be fair. For the last two years people have been complaining that "ATI only supports rpm " pout pout etc. nVidia's installer looks so nice yeah yeah yeah. I've seen the complaints. We wanted to provide a more pleasant install experience for these people; one that did not necessarily bypass package management like nVidia's (which is important to many Linux users). This installer is definitely a step in that direction. 35 MB IS too big; no argument, but the size will go down as we look into methods for optimizing it. We're just getting started and there's a lot to look forward to. I'm sorry the rest of you hate it so much. 1 kinda hurts.
Sorry about that - I know how it feels when people poo poo your work and efforts. But I really do not think that this installer is necessary or needed. That's my last comment on the matter, so you'll not see a 1 from me again On the bright side, starting from such a low score - as Yazz made famous - the only way is up
