It's a weekend, and a holiday weekend to boot, so the site might stay this way for some time. Someone apparently used SQL injection to wipe, and we do mean wipe, the RIAA's website clean of content.

lol, instead of jailing people like these, the government should hire these people and pump them with enough money for them to not cause trouble.....

We'd have a sudden tidal wave of protection-software heading our way that protects against everything from accidental keypresses to atomic bombs for our computers

I can see where your'e coming from with that but shouldn't the goverment maybe just try fixing them up with jobs instead of giving them grants ect.? Otherwise we'd have a massive increase in hackers/crackers/exploiters.
Jailing them is stupid imo, a bored teenage hacker could be occupying a cell that would otherwise house a murderer or rapist.

thats what i meant, give them a decently paying job that they wont have to go hacking pages and doing things like this..... have them fixing holes, eliminating security flaws and all that. or give them something else and keep them on probation or something......

    Pwned big time.

I think you will find that an automatic 15 year jail sentence is a bigger deterrent than giving someone a job that may not exist in the real world. Why can't they get a job in the first place like everyone else? There's plenty of work out there if they get off their backsides.

Alternative to jail - compulsory 10 year enlistment in the armed forces. Serve your country or do the time. Simple choice.

Employ them in computer security... how many AV companies have former virus writers on their staff, probably most of them... poacher turned gamekeeper!
