The release schedule for February 2022 just got slightly lighter as developer Volition confirms it has delayed Saints Row to 23rd August 2022. The game was originally launching on the same day as Elden Ring for PlayStation 5 and PS4. Now it becomes a summer release, lending the studio more time "to create the best Saints Row game yet".

Chief creative director Jim Boone explained how the team underestimated the impact the global pandemic would have on development on the official Saints Row website. "The team just need more time to do our vision justice; we’re doing some fine tuning and there won’t be much change in the game outside of overall quality and polish." The size and scope of the title mean Volition simply needs more time to get everything right, Boone explains.

Delaying the game allows for further polish and other game improvements, but the story and characters will not be changed in any way. "Rest assured, there will not be any changes to the story or the characters or anything that we’ve lovingly imagined over the last few years and already shared with you." There was some backlash to the title's character design and visuals upon its initial announcement, but this new update reinforces the fact that Volition "won't be backing down on this game". The design of the world and its characters are here to stay.
