After working like a charm for about a year my ati radeon mobility 9000 recently went funky. Whenever I play for about 15minutes (varies) a white 'checkerboard' pattern comes up. After that my graphics are completly messed up with fluo colors and stuff. Exiting the game and restarting helps ... until it starts over. :sigh:

    :duh:

    Specs:
    Acer Aspire 1603
    -P4 2.6Ghz
    -Mobility Radeon 9000
    -2*256MB DDR SDRAM
    -40GB Ultra ATA/100HDD
    -15" XGA TFT LCD

It's definatly not driver related because this happens with Omega 2558, 2567 and with the supported drivers. I also didnt OC so ...

What do you experts think caused this:

    -FUBAR'ed graphic chip?
    -malfunctioning cooling?
    -LCD-related?
    -anything else? :hmm:

Should I RMA my notebook (got only 2 days of warrant left  ) or is there any other way to fix this??

    your hitmann.

Well even if you aren't OCing, it is possible that your card is dead.... Ummmm, you know, gradually cards get weaker and all... If you only got 2 days left on ur warrant, use it before it's gone!!!

I had the same problem - strange graphic corruption with Radeon Mobility 9000 (after one year of using it). I'm sorry, but it looks like VERY serious problem with graphic chip. I have to RMA my laptop and they replaced the entire motherboard. After this everything is now OK.
However, it is possible that in your case it may be problem only with the cooler... Better RMA laptop as soon as it is possible!

Get a can of compressed air and blow out your computer. The corruption might be due to overheating; notebooks are notorious for accumilating dust and overheating because of it.
